I backed up catalog to external drive to external directory PSE12-2014 using PSE12 backup process which took forever.

Went to laptop and attempted to restore from external drive, but PSE12 could not find the backup file. Checked manually and files have been copied to external drive and directory PSE12-2014.

Naturally the smart previews would have to be regularly updated to match any work undertaken on the PC.
The subject of this thread says it all. Using the EOS Utility (and a Canon camera, of course), I have options to shoot RAW+JPG and transfer both, or JPG Only to the computer.

The issue is the laptop tool palettes will reside on the C:/ drive, which is not our network drive. Is there an easy way to switch drives without changing each item, on each tool palette?

I've just completed a fairly complicated dynamic block (took me a few days to make actually), and there is a possibility of me cleaning up the quick properties window to have less redundant input dimensions if I simply transfer actions/action bars from one parameter to another. I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)

As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR, then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!

I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.

I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
I downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and that’s when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit “load actions” and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking “why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) “Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost”.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldn’t find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just don’t run.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.
My computer crashed and I removed all apps and reinstalled so now none of my actions appear. However I do have a backup file of all of them and want to reinstall but before when I was using cs6 ( Im assuming same thing as CC as it was all on the subscription plan ) I would click actions then the right arrows and it would bring me a big screen of all the actions ( even the ones that were just preloaded in ps ) and it was a big box with all the actions and some options to record etc...Now that box isn't there and it's just a single column drop down menu.

Now, in past, when I saved actions CS2 would "remember" where this folder was, making real easy to save.
Lately, it keep defaulting to save as in the app folder-- even though I did navigate to my special area on last save as.
before buying a new laptop. My question is will the following specs work well with adobe products like Photoshop, fireworks and like programs. I don’t play any games so that is not an issue. It's not the CD, because it installs fine in other machines. I cannot run the install from either my desktop locally or from a CD drive of a working machine.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am currently running CS3 on a laptop that will soon be replaced. I know that I have to de-activate CS3 on the old laptop, before I can install CS3 on the new laptop. (Note: New laptop is an ASUS G71G-Q2) Once CS3 is installed I will then run the upgrade disk for CS4. What I'm trying to figure out is this: BEFORE I install the CS4 upgrade, do I need to install all the updates/fixes to CS3 to insure "trouble free" operation of CS4? or does installing the CS3 updates play no role in CS4 as they are like two different app's? I would assume that whatever responce I get here about CS3 and CS4 would also apply to Lightroom 1.4 and Lightroom 2.3 regarding updates.Â

I'm running Vista Home Edition with 3G RAM and I just updated the graphic card drivers.
Photoshop's GPU options are greyed out, and I can't use the rotate tool. Does this chipset simply not have the capacity to support whatever the program wants, or am I just not configuring something right?

Updating driver for ATI Mobility Radeon HD560V display adapter.AMD website auto-suggested and installed HD 4650 (?) driver.That made PS work a bit better, but other stuff started freezing (Chrome, Bridge)Went to Dell site and reinstalled HD 560V. Had to uninstall and reinstall Catalyst Control Centre.
