Photoshop :: Guides Have No Effect On Snappiness Of Layer When Transforming It

Jan 17, 2013

I've used photoshop for a long time, and dragging/transforming something to it could be snapped either to document bounds or guides has been simple and straightforward.

Then photoshop got all newfangled and complicated, trying to be too clever, and ever since trying to e.g. drag some text layer so it would be centered around a guide, resizing a shape so its bounds would snap to guides, has become almost impossible to accomplish. It's almost it's trying to snap my layer to some invisible guides that aren't there. What the heck is going on?

I'm having to spend a lot of effort actually trying to make it pixel perfect, accurate, center aligned, zoom in so I can see the pixels, and resize. It's almost as if the guides have no effect on the "snappiness" of the layer when transforming it.

Photoshop :: Transforming / Flipping / Rotating Layer Groups In CC

Sep 16, 2013

Just upgraded from CS5 to CC and I find some thing very very very annoying. Any transform operation on a layer group seems to be applied on the individual layers instead of the group as a whole. How can I turn this extremely useless behavior off?

Photoshop :: Create Layer / Group-specific Guides?

May 21, 2013

I have a quite large Photoshop document where I've drafted up a number of pages for a website, and I require guides which are specific to certain layers or groups, and not just to the whole document. Is this possible? Any plugins which serve this purpose, or functionality I'm missing?

I'm using Photoship CS6 on a Mac OSX 10.8.3

Photoshop :: Accurate Placement Of Guides [View>New Guides]

Feb 13, 2008

I have a number of vertical and horizontal guides to be placed, at different points. Is there a better way of placement rather than zooming up on the ruler area, watching the Nav coordinates and dragging and dropping? I'm really looking for a method which will I can key in the actual placement coordinates in some way, and the guide will jump to this point?

CorelDRAW X6 :: Alignment Guides Doesn't Match With Guidelines And With Dynamic Guides?

May 27, 2013

What I mean:

Draw an ellipse. Skew it with mouse.

Draw a rectangle to allign with ellipse's outer dimension by Alignment Guides (not by Align and Distribute command).

Now the aligned side of the Rectangle must be tangent to the ellipse BUT it's not! To verify, try to search an intersection point. Draw a Guideline and snap it to the rectangle's aligned side. It must be intersection point between Guideline and Ellipse but there isn't...

Photoshop :: Filter Effect And Layer Style In Same Layer Versus Separate Layers

Mar 18, 2013

I'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object.  I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged).  I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer.   The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal.  Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.

 Layer 1: a layer style and a filter effect, stacked

looks very different from....

Layer 2:  a layer style

Photoshop :: How To Restrict Layer's Effect Only To 1 Immediate Layer?

Aug 5, 2008

Lets say I have one layer with colour information, (set to hue blending mode) and one layer with black and white shades. What if I want the layer with the colour to only effect the layer immediately underneath? And not all the layers underneath?

In Corel photophaint, if I wanted one layer to only appear through another layer, I would "powerclip" or "paperclip" it.

Photoshop :: Transforming A Selection

Apr 2, 2009

I've been following a couple of books on how to transform a selection. I've gotten as far as placing the bounding box and then resizing the selection but when I hit 'enter', the original object is just as it was, and the 'new object' is a resized marching ant shaped object (that you can see right through). I've followed the instructions in two different books (several times!) and the exact same thing happens. Any idea why this is happening? Can anyone tell me how to successfully resize a selection?

Photoshop :: Transforming/Feathering

May 14, 2006

I have PS CS2. I tried to make a fireball I ran into a problem. I had to expand it by 5 pixels after selecting it (it was on its own layer). The selection box was the only thing affected by the transformation. I tried the other transformations and only free transform seems to do anything to it. Feather also does nothing to the selection and I have tried doing these steps on different images but I still get the same results . I know it must be a small setting somewhere or something I might have overlooked, I am even thinking of reinstalling

Photoshop :: Transforming Text

May 12, 2009

I have hundreds of ship's names to enter into a fixed size box.  Font is FIXED at Times Roman Regular 40 pt.  After entering the text I tried recording an Action - Transform / Scale, where I set it to the required length, the beginning and end of which is shown by two guide lines.  When I used the action for the next name, instead of Transform / Scaling to the guide lines, it scaled by the same percentage (horizontally) as when recorded.  This gave an incorrect result because all the names varying in number of characters.  I know the x co-ordinates for the ends of the bounding box, how can I do an action that uses those co-ordinates or scales to the fixed guide lines?

Photoshop :: Transforming In CS2: Rotating 45 Degrees

Oct 8, 2006

im making a character for a computer fighting game, but ive hit a stumbling block.

click to enlarge

I want to rotate something thats already fairly pixelated (but its fine because the character is in constant motion, and fairly small) but rotating something 45 degrees makes it all blurry and whatnot. In this particualr frame of the characters animation, i am going to have him be still, so it will be very noticeable if i left him this way.

I know i cant expect perfect transformation because of the shape of pixels, but what is the best way to go about this so that the image comes out fairly crisp.
If its not too much to ask you to explain it to me in detail because i dont know my way around photoshop too well.

The character itself is done, im simply adding sprites that make the character have unique introductions when he faces other characters. Anyways, if anyone is interested, heres what my guy looks like in action. As you can see, his pixels arent too noticeable, only in that frame that i posted earlier.

Photoshop :: Filter Effect In New Layer?

Sep 12, 2005

I have a picture of a face and the background is water. I want to make a water face and to do that i need to make a water effect out of the face. "Plastic wrap" is a nice filter to use. I select the face and applying the filter, but the filter is now "in" the face (merged), but i want the plastic wrap filter to be in a new layer so i can disable the face and have the water-face effect and the background left.

How do i do that? If i make a new layer above the face and applaying the filter, i get a error because there wasn't any pixel to use.

Illustrator :: Easiest Way To Move / Copy Effect From Layer - Object To Another Layer Or Object?

Jun 18, 2013

If I drag an effect from the target circle of one object to anther in the layer's panel it replaces the effect along with all appearance. But I want just to add the effect. For example, a layer has a drop shadow and a path, round corners. I want to move the drop shadow from the layer  to the path so that the path now has the round corners and the drop shadow. To do this I have to open the shadow effect of the layer wright down its parameters, then create a shadow effect for the path with the same parameters which is a lot of work.

Photoshop :: Put A Layer On Top Of Another And Achieve A Specific Effect

Feb 6, 2009

I am trying to put a layer on top of another and achieve a specific effect.

My bottom layer is a normal color image, however my top layer is a single object with completely white background. I am trying to over-layer the two in such a way that the object on the top layer is fully visible and blocks the space behind it. However the white portion of the top layer should not interfere with the bottom image. I know there is a cropping method but I cannot use any cropping in what I am doing. I need to figure out how to do this effect using layer options.

The trick is that I have a completely white background on my top image, so I think there should be a way to make white transparent but at the same time keep the object visible.

Here is a sample of what i am looking for (I did this using cropping technique but need to figure out how to do it using layer options/effects such as multiply and overlay)

Photoshop :: Effect On A Layer Folder Not Saving Across Computers

Jun 5, 2013

In CS6, when I apply folder effects in a file on my laptop and then transfer them to my tower (computer that is, I am not a prince and do not have an actual castle with a tower) then all of the effects I have applied to a folder do NOT show up when I open the document.

The folder effects DO save on each computer, example: if I save a file and open it up the next day on the same computer it opens and displays as expected.

If I transfer the file either from my tower to my laptop or laptop to my tower the effects are completely erases from a folder (not from a layer)

I am using a USB flash drive to transfer the files. You can imagine how frustrating it is to open a file and have to go through your folders to apply all of the correct effects again.

Photoshop :: Glass Effect On Arbitrary Background Layer

Feb 21, 2009

Basically, I want to be able to create a glass effect on a square icon tile. I want the glass to be translucent so that the image behind the square icon tile is blurry (hence the translucency). I know how to create effect if I want it over some user-defined background layer, but what I am trying to do is a bit different. I need to import a PNG file into a theme program, and it uses this glass tile. I want the glass tile to have the translucent effect, but the problem is, I can only get the effect to work if I create a layer over a user-defined background layer. What I want is to have the translucent effect over whichever background is used in my theme program. I am not sure if this is possible to do with a PNG file, or even possible at all. If anyone could shed some knowledge on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Photoshop :: Warp Pattern About Central Point - Advanced Transforming?

If you imagine the pattern on a planar surface, the warp that I am trying to achieve is as if one were to grab the central point of the surface and pull it directly away from the face - see image below for visual aid...

I'm trying to achieve a pattern that is a flat file, but looks like you are looking directly at the end of a pointy end of a cone that used to be a flat surface with the pattern on it.
