Jan 21, 2009I am unable to open files from the file "OPEN". I can open from Bridge or open recent document, but not from just File, Open.
My operating system is Mac OS X.

Oct 24, 2013I've previously used CS4 and CS5 to make layered psd templates. They have always been compatible with elements and all versions of Photoshop. Now I've used PS CC and it is either just not opening or freezing up other versions of Photoshop.

Jan 8, 2013I use a Windows 7 64 bit Dell at home and at work. Both have Photoshop CS6 (not extended). This week when I saved files at home using file compatiblity (since co-workers in my office are on CS 5.1) and FTPed them from home to the work network I ran into all sorts of issues.
5.1 users reported getting all sorts of errors including...The document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable... and another one about missing "color books"
I read about cross version problems with shapes with the new CS6 vector strokes applied. Sure enough, when I sent CS 5.1 co-workers small test files by email they could open all of them but the one with the shape with CS6 vector stroke. So I went back to the larger PSDs and removed the strokes from any shapes, but the office still could not open the files.
I too, even though on the same CS6 product get an error "There was a problem reading the layer data. Read the composite data instead?" If I click to do so I get another error "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop" which is simply not true wince both are CS6
Illustrator :: How To Open Files As Layers In Open File
Mar 1, 2013I'm working with both Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 on a mac. I'm creating a graphic. The background is a (cartoonish) mouth and I finished it a couple of days ago. (It's an Illustrator file.) I've been working on the letters to go inside of the mouth, (Once I'm finished it'll look as though they're being crushed.) I scanned and edited small wooden letters in Photoshop, and now I would like to work with them with the background in Illustrator. I understand how to open a Photoshop file in Illustrator, but I don't want to open the document as a separate Illustrator file. Is there a way to open a file from Photoshop as a second layer?
Some of the letters repeat as well. Will I have to create two files for this, or can I open the same file twice?
Photoshop Elements :: 6.0 Compatibility With Snow Leopard?
Apr 4, 2013After using PSE v6.0 for years under Mac Leopard, I upgraded to Snow Leopard and it is no longer stable....crashes mostly when saving a file. I tried reinstalling PSE v6.0 but nothing changed. I've looked for upgrades to both Snow Leopard and PSE v6.0 but Snow Leopard's didn't improve anything and I can't find upgrade to PSE.

Mar 9, 2013Am I correct in assuming that mts files aren't compatible with VSX2? I can drag them to the library but when I put them on the timeline the program shuts down. These are HD files from my Canon video camera.
I also can't import them- I've tried every way to get the files into VS but it shuts down.
Photoshop :: Getting Image Thumbnail Without Having To Set Maximize File Compatibility To Yes?
Jul 30, 2012I would like photoshop to show a file image for the thumbnail (instead the generic lines of type). I know in the pref box I can set the "Maximize File compatibility" to "Always" or Ask, and this will save a flattened version of the file as part of the document. But this greatly increased the file size. I did some checking on 10 layered files ranging from 14Mb to 45Mb. The new file size increased a whopping 35% to 88%. That's a heavy price to pay both on my system here, our back up / archive, CD / DVD burning, and our client systems. I'm in the process of putting together a browser based image library. To render a image thumbnail it shows the generic lines of type if layered (useless), and a image thumbnail only if "File compatibility" is set to Yes. ( Which greatly increases file size, and cost of storage space).
Is there a way to get a image thumbnail without having to set Maximize File Compatibility to Yes? It would seem to me that photoshop should be able to create a small, low res flattened version, at a low quality setting, that would be on the kb in size for a thumbnail. And imbed that into the file, vs the bloated composite. I understand the reason for the composite for file compatibailty with previous versions etc. Just not for creating the thumbnail.

Jun 10, 2012When I have 2 files open, one minimized and the other visible on the screen, when I quit the file showing on the screen and then open the one that was minimized, it comes up w/a blank black screen. There is no way I have found to get the info in the file to display.
Then, if I save the blank screenof previously minimized file, close it then reopen it the info is back on screen with changes made to the file intact.

Jun 15, 2011Media players are not compatible with DV.avi files. So I need to convert my DV.avi movies which I made/kept during several years to a media player compatible format. I want to keep as much as possible the original DV quality. I tried almost all conversion possibilities within VSX3.
MOV conversion looks as one of the best, but like I mentioned in another thread I only get progressive mode, which unfortunately results in judder when there is motion, line twitter because of the (poor?) VS deinterlacer, which also cause stair casing on slant structures (line doubling?). Up to now I keep it on an MPEG2 9800kb/s LFF conversion.

Feb 15, 2014I have recently bought a new Nikon D7100 camera . When I try to open some NEF raw files, Photoshop Elements 11 complains my camera is not on the Camerra Raw list. I have tried for hours and hours to see how to fix this ... I have done the usual look at the plug-ins etc - the plug-in states I haev version 7.4 - which according to the blurb means D7100 files should be Ok ... beginning to get a bit pee'd off now with Adobe......

I click "open," navigate to the picture I want to open and nothing happens. I tried holding down, Ctrl, Alt, Shift when starting the editor to reset preferences and that did nothing. I even tried going to Preferences and clicking Reset Preferences on next launch and that also did nothing.

Sep 20, 2012I use MediaPro to manage my media assets and it allows me to pass files to PE10 with an "Open With..." feature. So I can have a file selected in MediaPro, and then open that file with PE by using this feature. It worked great with PE8, but for some reason I cannot get it to work with PE10. When I use the feature, PE10 opens, but to a blank page - the actual image fails to come into the program.
I know the problem is NOT with MediaPro, since this worked flawlessly with PE8. The problem appears to be with PE10.
