Jan 10, 2014I am changing from PSE8 to PSE12 and realized upon trying 12 today that PSE12 automatically saves my edited pictures in PSD format where PSE8 saved them in JPEG. I don't use the organizer for catalogs, instead opening up folders where I've saved my pictures (e.g. Christmas 2013)and editing the photos I like in PSE8 and then saving them back in that same folder. It may not be the 'right' way, but it works for me. The picture I tried using PSE12 on, saved in the PSD format which isn't viewable in those folders (windows picture viewer is the default). I truly only use PSE for improving pics I like and want to share/email, use as my desktip background, post to Facebook, and print for myself or gifts via uploading to a photo printing service (Mpix, Walmart, etc.) Is there a way to have PSE12 default to saving as JPEG or should I be saving everything as PSD? I get that PSD only works with PS and takes more space, but doesn't cause loss of quality of the pictures the way JPEG does ~ I'm just not sure it's important for the way I use PSE. \

Dec 8, 2013I've now finally got PSE12 installed. However the 'Add People' functionality is not working.
In the 'People' tab, when I click the 'Add People' button I get the 'preparing files' dialogue box. I then get a message saying "You have labelled everyone in your selection" (whether I've made a selection or not in 'Media'). I can 'add people' in an individual photo but not by clicking 'add people' either in Media or People view. This worked fine for me in PSE11.
I'm using Windows 7 and don't have any other PSE versions installed.
Photoshop Elements :: Cannot Open Lightroom 5 Image In PSE12
Nov 3, 2013I just purchased PSE 12. In Lightroom 5, I can set up an Edit in Photoshop Elements preset.
When I try to edit a .dng or .cr2 raw image in PSE from Lr5, the first dialog I get asks if I want to edit a copy with Lr adjustments. Then PSE opens but no file(s) are loaded.
If I open the file directly from PSE 12, it will open (with Lr5 adjustments)... but that's not the point.

Sep 29, 2013I have a folder on my main HD which contains pictures that I use all the time but also regularly delete when done with them.
When using PS elements 10 I could never stop the program from importing the contents of this folder so that when I deleted them they kept showiing as 'missing files' in the catalog Have upgraded to 12 in the hope that I cam somehow tell the program to ignore this folder.

Jul 17, 2013We have no lighting effects in the SDK so we've been looking at work around for how to introduce them.Our game takes places on various planets in the solar system. It will be viewed from the top down so the player will be able to see terrain and structures.
The game is going to be compiled mostly using 2D map art and 3D animated models imported as sprite sheets.Because there are no lighting effects we are adding them to the models using the modelling software. All of game maps are being built with a white light. We are instead looking to add a block image canvas with the colour set to that which matches the planet it is set. With the opacity reduced to 25-35% it then gives the map and models the correct light ambience. Before our developer started testing this out in the SDK I used photoshop to come up with the solution. I found that we got the best results when setting the canvas block colour layer to 'soft light'. The only problem is when I export the canvas on its own and send it to our developer it seems to lose the soft light effect.
My question is, is there a way to export the soft light effect? Simply using normal mode and changing the opacity doesn't make the light ambiance look as natural.If you scroll down on the link below you will see two images of the same location. Apr 6, 2006I'm designing a ticket for the senior prom with photoshop. Basically I have a plain black background, with a layer of text over it.
I'm trying to place three red spotlights on the black. The them for prom is hollywood.
Whenever I go to Filter<Render<Lighting effects, I pick three down or whatever, and make them red. The lights do not show up on the preview though... The dots do, but not the lights. If I pick an omni light it works...but not spotlight or directional. If I hit okay, nothing changes on my ticket.

Oct 22, 2004I've noticed that for the last few images I've tried modifying the lighting with (using Filters>Render>Lighting Effects), that it will not change the bottom row of pixels, for any reason. I've changed the angle of the lighting, and tried all combinations of effects, none of them doing anything to the very bottom row, 1px thick. I can still modify that row myself, and other filters work on it normally, but lighting effects refuses to.
