Photoshop :: Can Change Resolution Of Photo Without Losing Quality For Retina Ready Photos
Sep 4, 2013
I would like to prepare some photos for Retina display screens (not for printing) and was told that in order to do this, I need to increase the resolution of my images from 72dpi to 240dpi.
Â
Many of my original photos are 3000 x 1875 pixel size at 72dpi resolution. What I wanted to know is that if I uncheck 'resample image' in the 'image size' dialogue box and increase the resolution from 72dpi to 240dpi, will my image suddenly be Retina ready without ANY loss of quality?
Â
I find it hard to get my head around the fact that you can simply raise the resolution of an image in this way with no adverse affect to the quality.
I am trying to create a company ad that incorporates the company logo. The person who created the logo saved two version of it: one is a PNG file, while the other is a pdf file, with the logo copied about 6 times. The logo is complex yet beautiful and artistically done. I do not have the skills needed to recreate such a logo from scratch. Therefore, I need to import the image into Corel Draw X5 to use. However, when I do that with either formats, the quality of the images are so poor that I would be embarrassed to have it printed.
Currently looking at buying either Lightroom 4 or Elements 11 at home - can I change image resolution and merge/join photos along with the standard photo editing - would be using this app for my travel pics, family photos and photobooks?
The default resolution when I open a photo, is set on 72 pixels per inch. This produces a photo with not a lot of detail and my previews are not the same as the end result. I have read somewhere that it is better to work on 300 dpi. Is this correct?
And if so, how do I change the default setting?
Or should one always work on 72 and occasionally change to 200-300 dpi?
On my Macbook Pro Retina photographs that look stunning viewed in Preview, PhotoMechanic or iPhoto are all pixellated and blurred when viewed in Photoshop Elements 11.
Ok I'm trying to make this animation, it's quite simple, but it ends up really messed up... I've been trying to fool around with the optimize settings, but havent gotten anything that looked better... anybody help? I just have a series of layers that get bigger and bigger and size in the background.
After spending time in PS elements 11 making changes in color and applying frames etc. I noticed after saving the file my resolution went from 5.5Mb to 847kb. Why is this?
I did a Photo shoot for some dancers who need some images for print. How do i save these images so that they are A, print ready pdf's. and B, Email able. Â The goal is to get these images onto the page of a paper/magazine. Not full size but i guess they will be a put in a box.
im trying to save this small animation to GIF but the problem is the colours keep messing up, and i lose alot of quality. is there a way i can do it without losing the quality?
if i copy and then paste on a new canvas, will the picture quality automatically be duplicated? or are some other factors coming into play, like size of the new canvas or resolution?
Is it possible to change the resolution when exporting a photo to Facebook using either the regular plugin or Jeffrey Friedl's plugin? I can't seem to do it; I only have control over the image dimensions, not the resolution and the dimensions, as you can see in the screen shots below:
I have control over both when I export to my hard drive (or a flash drive, etc.), as you can see below:
I can't find the option to control the resolution when I try to export to Facebook. Before I got Lightroom 4, I would create whole new low-resolution files of images I wanted to post online using Photoshop. The image size settings I would use are a longest edge of 10 inches at 72ppi, and I would like to continue doing this. If I can only set the longest side to 720 pixels (I can't even seem to set the longest edge to an inches value - I can only choose a pixels value) and not change the resolution from 300ppi to 72ppi, then my photos' longest edge will only be less than 3 inches long (right?). Thus, I really want to be able to upload low-resolution photos to Facebook via Lightroom with the ability to change both the resolution and the image dimensions. How to do it without having to export to my hard drive first?
I'm trying to use the export>render video feature in Photoshop CS5 extended. I must use avi without any compression, keeping the original frame rate (the original file is also an uncompressed avi). My impression was that this setting keeps the original video quality.
However, the exported video loses quite a bit of its original quality. Is it possible to keep the original quality?
Our company has a logo that is only 140pixels x 110pixels we need to make the image bigger without losing quality or looking pixelated so we can use it on signs etc. Is this possible on any adobe program?
I'm having some trouble when uploading photos to my company's website, they look fine when editing and then when they are saved to my computer. However, after uploading to our website it looks like they lose resolution quality in areas where colors are changing.
The first image here is the image from my computer, the second is from the website after being uploaded. In the areas between the red jersey material and the white numbering/lettering it just looks strange. Is there something I am not doing right while editing the image, or is the problem most likely in our upload process?
I use Adobe Photoshop CS, and I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I'm having with resizing images.
I'm wanting to resize an image from 485x391 to 100x81, but when I try to do that, the image quality is completely degraded and it goes blurry where the finer details are.
why my pictures are losing color when I save as. I've tried jpg at the highest setting, bmp, and gif, and its just not saving my image as it looks in photoshop. I recently did a fresh install of PS7 and I never had this problem before. I'm thinking there is some setting I need to change, perhaps in 'Color Settings' but I don't know much about it.
I've included a screenshot of what my image looks like in PS7 and how it looks when I save it.
PS7 image -->
saved image -->
As you can see, its completly different colors, especially the ends.
I recently got a new computer. I use CS3 to edit. For some reason, whenever I resize the image, save it as a Jpeg and post it to the web, it loses image quality. Severely. I've never had this problem before....until this new computer. I usually resize the image to 800, then simply click on Save as Jpeg. Â
I have simple line drawings in illustrator (outlines of clothes) that I wish to open in photoshop to add colour and effects to. When i have tried to copy and paste (as normal paste, smart object, pixels, path and shape layer) the quality is lost.
I have also tried to open or place the file in photoshop as a .psd, .ai , .pfd and still the quality is lost.I have saved with different resolution settings too, but it always loses quality when it is opened in photoshop. Â Is there any way to have a clear line drawing like it is in illustrator in photoshop?
Bringing in 12mp images from Nikon camera and losing quality (blurry edges, low quality, etc). Is there a setting I can change or is this what we have to deal with on ps touch?
How do I convert my cr2 image from camera into a jepeg to send online without losing the color and quality of the cr2 image? Mine gets really bad when I convert to jpeg. Can I size a cr2 also?
I am myself a photoshop student and I wanna learn about graphic designs, currently Iam working to create pamphlets for an organization.maybe some of you know that for creating brochures you need to set 300 resolution of your image,So only and only high resolution images can be used for this, and we cant find high resolution images easily but that random images which we preserve are mostly workable so that images which Iam trying to use in my brochures are mostly 500/300 px or maximum I may find 800/600 px which is not enough, I at least need to have 1600/1200 px images for a pamphlet I know we mostly use IMAGE SIZE to enlarge the image but as much as we enlarge the image size, the quality becomes more poor that's what the problem is so I wanna know if there is any method of increasing size of the image without losing it's quality,
I have somehow managed to create a monster size picture in MB's. ie my picture is 12x10 with several pictures and a backround etc....but it has somehow got to 871 MBs!!!  How do I get that size down to a more manageable size in mbs without losing the quality??
I am creating a series of music worksheets on photoshop. I have created some music scores in a music writing software called Sibelius 7. It has the capability to export the sheet music graphics in the following forms: .pdf, .eps, .bmp, .tiff, .png, .svg . Â However, I have tried to 'place' each of them into my photoshop file to see which one will work.
But on saving the photoshop document as a .pdf with any of the graphics formats, the vector quality of the image has been lost, as it pixelates on zooming in. I have also tried to import an .svg file into adobe illustrator to save it as an .ai file and then import that into photoshop, but the image is again pixelated. Â I don't really know what is happening, as I am essentially trying to import a file that is a vector (or at least does not pixelate on zooming) into photoshop, hoping for the same qualities to be retained, but it is being lost for some reason. Â What should I do?
I'm losing a lot of quality when resizing images (I'm using CTRL + R and Best quality resampling).
The images I usually resize have approximately 900 x 900 pixels and they are basically text print screens. I resize them to 80%. Â Is there anything that I can do to get images with better quality?
