Photoshop :: Experience With Lightroom Instruction Books?
Mar 7, 2007I'd like to hear if anyone has any experience with Lr books. At 35 to 50 bucks each and the hundreds of pages buying the wrong one or many could make a major hole in ones Latte' budget and the time to enjoy them.
In short: experience and recommendations.
Oh yeah, I read the manual that comes in the box, took 15 minutes and was of nearly no use.
Photoshop :: Embedding Color Profiles For Asuka Books?
Jul 28, 2008I design wedding albums for a photography studio, and I'm currently trying to order an album from Asuka books (in case anyone might be familiar with them). In order to do this, I have to take the folder containing all my files (jpgs) and run it through their "file checker", to make sure all the files are in the correct format. Anyway, everytime I do this, I get a message saying "some color profiles are not embedded". I don't really know much about color profiles, except that the template I'm using from the company is "Adobe RGB (1998)", so I set my workspace color profile to the same. The people at Asuka have not been able to help me, and I'm way behind deadline and about to lose it! Bottom line...Does anyone know how to tell which files have embedded color profiles and which do not?

Dec 8, 2005I would firstly like to apologise if this topic has been covered in depth but i am desperately looking for the right book/s as a Christmas present to ensure that my girlfriend learns Photoshop CS2 with ease. I have some experience in Photoshop and have been doing an IT degree here in New Zealand for the past 4 years but I’m not a designer so i really need your guys help!
I also appreciate that there are so many books out there but have found that some don’t go into enough depth or lack the variation in examples to significantly cover what photoshop has to offer. I was initially thinking that a couple of books might be necessary to take her from beginner to advanced.
Lightroom :: Duplicating Books In 5?
Jan 13, 2014I would like to make a second version of an 80 page Blurb book I built in Lightroom 5. Can I make a duplicate of the existing book (like a vritual copy, etc) so that I don't have to build the second version from scratch? The first version is an enhanced ebook with video and a lot of double truck images, and the second will be for PDFs, omitting the video pages and 2 page spreads.

Jul 22, 2013The last 2 weeks I spent creating a photobook (30x30cm), 100 pages. To have a faster start, I've duplicated a book project that was created with Lightroom 4 and edited this.

Unfortunately I cannot export the new book. Neither as PDF (tried several settings) or JPG, nor can I upload it to Blurb directly. Whenever I press any of the available "Export to PDF" or "Upload to Blurb" Buttons, simply NOTHING happens. No activity bar in the top left corner, no "Please wait" or whatsoever window. Simply no response from the software. I can continue working with Lightroom, the speed is the same (which means no background process like image conversion) has been started.

To reproduce the error, I've created a new book with LR 5 quickly. "+" Button in Collections > "Create new book" > added 20 pages, filled them randomly with photos (that have been part of the old book projects, too) "Export to PDF" > A new window opens, where to save the PDF. Perfect. Works as desired. "Upload to Blurb" > "Buy the book" windows opens, where i have to enter my Blurb Username and Password. Correct behaviour.

Back to the formerly created book (the LR4 duplicate). Same error: No response. I let LR5 create all necessary 1:1 previews, again > Nothing. Exited Lightroom and restarted it > Same problem. Restarted Windows and Lightroom > No export of the book. This happens to all my book projects that were created using Lightroom 4 and below.

Lightroom 5, 64 bit (including the new "ui.dll" file to prevent random crashes issue in Library Module), no active Plug-ins

Apr 29, 2013I'm trying to figure out the best way to clean some scans of old books in order to be able to reprint them. The final result I'm aiming at is B/W or grayscale images.
The most problematic is the ink passing through the paper that makes it harder to read.
The most efficient way I had found until now is to use the separate+ plugin, keep only the C and/or K layers and merge them as the brown spot have much less blue than the actual ink. But in this sample, the colors are too close.
In theory, something that I think is possible but how to differentiate dark places with sharp edges (actual writing) from the ones with soft edges (ink passing through) that would be blanked.

I don't use the printing service of Lightroom, instead I prefer to send the files to my local printing service and then stick them to an album (wedding stuff).

Lightroom :: Lack Of Quality Control On Blurb Books
Dec 12, 2012Increasingly, I've been concerned about the lack of quality control on Blurb books. This is especially problematic with cover printing and less so with book content pages. Two ideas come to mind.Â

Illustrator :: Color Books Not Saved In Window / Palette Preferences?
Jun 15, 2012I've found this a most irritating issue already since CS1.I use Pantone colors a lot in my designs and always have the Pantone Solid Coated Color book open in Illustrator. However, no matter how often I save workspace, as soon as I close Illustrator and restart the color book has disappeared from my palette settings and locations. I have to re-open the color book every single time.What is the problem with this? How can all the other windows be saved in the workspace settings and preferences, but not the color books?
And why is this issue not yet addressed, when it's been coming up already since CS1? It's not a computer / preferences file issue.CS1, CS3, CS5 and now CS6 were all installed on a brand new (empty save for operating system) computer.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Corrupted User-defined Color Books 2011
Apr 27, 2010Just upgraded from Civil 3D 2010 32-bit to Civil 3D 2011 64-bit. Over the years several user-defined color books were constructed using the Autocad Color Book Editor. With previous upgrades, these ACB files were simply transferred to the new version and worked OK. However, having upgraded to 2011, when the color books are opened, instead of the original colors, the color pages are corrupted, showing what look like Pantone red, green, and blue colors.

Feb 7, 2013I’ve run into an issue with importing survey data using field books.Â
I started by importing my primary control using a field book. There were no issues with importing these points. I then proceeded to import subsequent field books with additional control and then topographic mapping. In the last field book some points were accidentally overwritten due to an error in the field collection. No error message was given to let me know the survey points were in use and being overwritten. Luckily I caught the error before I proceeded to the next field book.Â
I tried to reimport the field book that originally created the points that were overwritten. At that point C3D told me that the points being occupied in the field book did not exist. I checked the point list for the primary control field book under the "Import Events" in the Survey Tab of the Toolspace and indeed the points in question were no longer listed.
I then proceeded to reimport all the field books in order, starting with the primary control. I got through several of field books before C3D again told me the point being occupied did not exist. This despite the fact that this same point was occupied in previous field books. After trying once again I was able to get through the field books.

I started to get this strange error with my Photoshop when making a new document in Photoshop and got the following error: "cannot initiate Photoshop because Photoshop cannot create any more windows".
I thought the easiest thing to do would be to reinstall (Photoshop needs reinstalling extremely often unfortunately), but now when I try and open the program it just give an alert beep and closes back up. Even though I rarely use ImageReady, I opened that up to check and it does the same behavior.

May 28, 2004Can anyone tell me what color settings I need to set in photoshop in order to avoid this from happening? It only happens once in a while and I don't know what I've done to fix it or screw it up. What happens is that when I'm in photoshop and I do a "save for web" my document jumps to image ready and when viewing '2 up' for optimization purposes and comparison, I realize that the original view is actually duller in color and does not look like the original in photoshop. The blacks are definitely not as black.

Jun 7, 2004when I got my first Macintosh IICX and all of my MacPaint clip art. I don't want to get rid of the clip art because since I'm still using a black ink printer and not upgrading to a color one, the clip art looks nice in newsletters and the like.
Up until this time I had been using SuperPaint which had the New Superbits editing plug-in to refine the pictures so they had the smoother and cleaner lines instead of looking jagged. With my new computer and printer, I'm also getting Photoshop CS packaged with Adobe Creative Suite Premium, which I have never used before. Since I have not received my order yet, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether Photoshop has the capability of improving the older MacPaint clip art like SuperPaint did with the New SuperBits editing plug-in. Over the past two days, I have been trying like crazy to back-up my pictures with SuperPaint and then re-saving them with Graphic Converter. It's been so incredibly slow that I thought I would go ahead and ask you, the experts, if Photoshop can also improve the quality of my older MacPaint clip art or if I should continue to back-up my clip art like I have been doing.

Jun 17, 2008I have just got back from the Elbow gig and pulled the images off the card. They load up in Bridge but don't have actual picture thumbnails. They are named correctly, ie: IMG_3483.CR2 but they won't open!? Error message says 'Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognise this type of file'
I could see them on the back of the camera.
mac users... i did a software update the other day and I noticed that there was an update for ACR. Could it have been something to do with that? And why can't I find ACR in my Applications?

Oct 30, 2012 of Adobe Photoshop v6.0.1 (quite old, I know, but it do all I want and on my old HW I did not plan/want to use any more recent version, because they are HUGE and with just a little preferences trick, I did not need to reinstall my PS - ever ), yet as Czech user, I need my software to type some special characters as well. Now the only problem is, that some of them PS just refuse to type. Seven small and seven caps are just wrong. See the line "for PS:"...

I battled the problem even by editing the fonts itsels, because that seems to work with Adobe Illustrator, yet this also cause the edited fonts to be useless in another programs. So I looked deeply and in the Adobe settings in directory Fonts / Reqrd are directory CMaps and perhaps editing the character map used will be better and usable solution? how to do it or even determine with file from the 96 files in the CMaps directory are right now used by Adobe Photoshop?

Mar 8, 2004when I try to save a tagra file with a alpha channel in photoshop 7 the box for the alpha channel is greyed out, with an warning sign next to it, and the line below stating "file must be saved as a copy with this selection" When I examine the saved file the alpha channel is not there!
Has anybody got any idea why?
My old version of photoshop 6, allows you to save alpha channels!
Photoshop :: Photoshop Soft Edge Tool Feature Missing
Mar 21, 2007the soft edge feature of the eraser and the brush no longer work. I can go into the pallet and choose a soft edge eraser or brush, but it comes up hard edge. When I try to use the marquee box with a feather to get a soft edge, I again get a hard edge. I've used this technique a lot, so I think I'm doing the method properly. Dec 29, 2008I am working on someone elses computer and the Software settings are different. The old owner does not use this computer anymore. The swatches are set and I would like it to function how it usually does, etc. I mean, even the transparent swatch on the tool bar is not there anymore, so when I use the pen path tool, I get these white and black fills which makes it difficult for me to see the path I am meant to be following.
How do I reset Photoshop so that I can customise it the way I want it? Reinstalling the softwares is not an option.
I would like to reset Illustrator, Indesign, Dreamweaver, etc.
