Lightroom :: How To Import RAW Files From A Jump Drive

Jun 25, 2012

I just installed Lightroom 2.0 and am trying to import RAW files from a jump drive.  LR cannot import them, and I get a error message saying the files are damaged or corrupted.  I know this is not the case, because my friend was just able to successfully download the same files.  Is there something I am doing wrong?

So how do I get rid of this hang up and import files again?

Lightroom :: How To Remove Files Copied To Second Drive On Import That Were Later Deleted From Catalog

May 27, 2013

If I do an import from my memory card, choose my external hard drive as a second location for the import, and then go into my catalog and delete the bad photos, is there any quick way to also remove those files from the backup on the external hard drive? I've got a ton of wasted space on my external HD due to things that I've deleted and don't know of any simple way to get rid of them short of formatting the drive and doing another export, which takes a long time and isn't something I want to do all that often.

Paint.NET :: PDN On Jump Drive - C++ Not Being Found

Mar 29, 2012

I used to be able to carry PDN on a Jump drive (flash drive/thumb drive) but once it updated to 3.5.10 when I try to use it away from my own machines, I get an error about C++ not being found. I then get a "Repair" window that comes up but it cannot repair itself.

Is the program no longer able to be portable like it used to be? Or is there something just missing from the machines I have tried to use the portable file on?

Lightroom :: Cache Large RAW Files Imported From Network Drive On Local Drive?

Jul 5, 2012

I'm copying RAW files from a shoot onto my network RAID drive in a per-album folder, from where I then import into a new LR catalog (I'm using LR 4.1) on my Windows laptop for that album.

I'm finding that editing RAW files on a network drive from a wireless laptop is awfully slow (not to mention not being able to continue the work offline somewhere else), so I'd like to cache those files on my speedy SSD drive just until I'm done editing and exporting/publishing that album.

I back up my per-album catalog onto the network folder alongside the RAW files since that's my IT-managed master repository. When I'm done editing, I'd purge the cached files and just keep the catalog previews on my limited capacity SSD.

So, is there a way to tell LR to, for one/all files imported from a location (in my case a network folder), look in an alternate location for the identical files? Since I create per-album catalogs in per-album folders, there wouldn't be filename clashing. Either LR can provide this caching behavior on its own or I'd manually copy files from the network folder to a local folder and tell LR to look there first.

I don't really want to make copies of files into secondary folders within LR since then it's a hassle to merge edits on the cached copy to its master copy (I haven't done this, but I'd imagine so).

Lightroom :: 5.3 - Can't Import To Network Drive

Dec 13, 2013

Since upgrading to 5.3, I have been having issues importing files to my NAS. I have tried a variety of ways of connecting it to the computer (through a wifi router and directly over ethernet, using SMB and AFP protocols) and I keep running into the same issue: LR works on it for a while, then tells me that all files are unsupported or damaged. Sometimes, one manages to get through and is imported correctly, but that's it.

The files are valid, Photo Mechanic imports them without problems. LR import the files correctly to the internal drive of the computer.

The main machine is a 27" iMac running OS X 10.9. The NAS is a Synology DS411j running the latest DSM (4.3).

Lightroom :: Why Does LR Import Photos To C Drive

Aug 2, 2013

I do not want my C drive involved with LR except for the catalog.

What I try to do is create a folder on my D drive and copy files from my CF card to a folder on the D drive.  On import I select the newly created folder and import from there.  Somehow LR does not want my photos on the D drive but on the C drive.

I cannot find a way to do this which is important because my C drive is under stress with Windows 7 64 and I don't have a lot of room to spare.

I know this is probably very basic but every time I create a folder on the D drive and import the photos are actually in My Pictures folder on the C drive.

Lightroom :: Can't Import Images To External Drive

Mar 30, 2014

I just switched from a Windows PC to a Mac.  I downloaded the Mac software from the cloud and installed it.  I have been keeping all my Raw images on a "Passport" external drive for the past couple of years.  I've successfully tranfered my catalog to the Mac and I have no problems importing photos to the harddrive on the Mac. I don't want to keep Raw files on my harddrive because of their size.  But, when I set LR to import to the external drive I get the message shown below.

I was running LR 5.2 and when this happened I upgraded to 5.3, same result. When I go to import from my hard drive, it allows me to select the drive and open the top level folders on the drive. When I go to open the lower level folders where my images are stored, the program stops working. The whole screen grays over and eventually says that the program has stopped working...

I have rebooted the computer, same result.

Lightroom :: How To Import Photographs From External Hard Drive To 4.1

Aug 18, 2012

I am trying to import photographs from an external hard drive to LR4.1.  The photos appear to come over ok and be available as long as the external hard drive is connected.  Once it's disconnected, however, the photos are still in LR, but each has a line that says "The file named XXXX is offline or missing."  What do I need to do to ensure that the photos are moved to the right place in LR so the entire file will be there, without the external hard drive connected?
