Lightroom :: Import Elements 8.0 Catalog Into Trial Of LR4 - Not Working
Jun 16, 2012
I downloaded a trial of Lightroom 4 and went to import my Elements 8.0 catalog. It says that it did do it, but with errors...and now when I open Lightroom, all my pictures just show up as grey squares. If I try to import pictures individually, it says that Lightroom already has all my pictures in the Library.
I want to import an Elements 8 catalog onto a different machine running Windows 8 and Lightroom 4. The existing work around seems to be for importing a catalog when one machine has both programs, but I don't think Elements 8 will run on Windows 8. The 'import catalog from Elements 8' option isn't showing in LR4 - presumably because it didn't see the catalog on install. The catalog is on a shared drive accessible to both machines...
I have a PhotoShop Elements with >12,000 images. I have keywords assigned and some are rated.
My computer has gone from WinXP to Win7. I have also had several different hard drive upgrades.
I currently have C:, D:, E: as available hard drives and F: and G: as Optical drives.
When I import, it has the correct number of photos, but thinks that everything is on F:. I believe that the E: drive used to be a different volume number previously.
I can manually refind every folder, but that will be very time consuming as I have around 100 folders.
We have 11000+ plus photos all carefully cataloged in Photoshop Album 1.0 on my old Windows XP PC. Our new PC is Windows 7 Home Premium with Photoshop Elements 9. How do I import our existing catalog and continue sorting our new photos into our old catalog?
It seems that a powerful tool like Lightroom (on top of a powerful Adobe suite) should allow a developer to import a client's catalog from Photoshop Elements on an external hard drive. Everything I've read in the support and forums indicate I need to have Photoshop Elements installed on my own machine, and that reading off a network drive is not possible.
I have downloaded the trial version. I have around 22,000 photos and included are some videos. The import gets to around 6,000 inports and freezes. I am picking a folder and requesting all of the sub folders for the import.
Up until now I have been using ACDSee. Wanting to changeover to Lightroom, but need to make sure it can do the job with my existing data.
I'm using LR4 with a Canon camera setup (Wind 7 Ultimate). I've got the auto import setting all configured with an incoming folder and destination. The app recognizes when an image is put in incoming folder and in fact it moves it to the destination folder. What is really annoying is that it leaves me at the import settings dialog and then I have to make all these choices as I would if I were manually importing.
Shouldn't the images be places in the desination folder and some view of that image be displayed in LR? It could be the folder view or ideally I want to see the last image imported at 1:1 size so I can review it and see if I want to take another shot? Maybe there is some flag I've got set incorrectly.
I have a large catalog of over 24K pictures. I want to use Backup, but it just does not work. I have tried to start the process and just let it run for over 2 hours, no results. I have a new Intel i& system with a 2TB HDD and 16GB of RAM so I don't think processing power is an issue.
I have a new computer and was using ELements 9 on the old one. I have downloaded the programme and aslo copied the catalogue over from the old computer. How do i import the catalogue? When I click on Import, it doesnt mention catalogue, only Frame for Video and Wia support.
I have some RAW images stored on a network drive, and I was working on them with my laptop. After completing the album, I removed the photos from the catalog on my laptop, so Lightroom wouldn't be so slow when I didn't have access to the network drive. This was short-sighted becuase I need access to those edits again, and I am wondering if I can re-import into the Lightroom catalog on my laptop and recover the edits.
After trying LR4 beta for about a month as a LR3 heavy user, my conclusion is there are features worth the upgrade, BUT I prefer the earlier Process Version and Basic Develop panel to the new one. I understand that I may choose not to upgrade the Process Version on photos in my present catalog as I import the catalog into LR4, thereby causing LR4 to look like LR3 for those preexisting photos. However, I'm unclear as to whether there is a way to configure LR4 so that it will import all new photos using PV2010, thereby continuing to develop them using the LR3 Basic panel and other develop controls. Does this option exist?
I have a desktop with all my photos and my main LR catalog. Occasionally I want to make changes to some of my folders on my laptop (e.g. time in airplane etc). The following procedure has worked for years, but alas (and I suspect the recent LR upgrade to 4.4) the last step no longer works.
Create catalog for these folders and copy folders with photos + their catalog to laptop.Make changes.Write a new catalog (call it "laptop-catalog.lrcat") on the laptop for the folder(s) changed. ("Export as a catalog")
Back on my desktop"import from another catalog" and find "laptop-catalog.lrcat" and select it.
I no longer can choose the option "Changed Existing Photos" and then "replace metadata and develop setting only" i.e my main catalog on the destop DOES NOT recognize the photos in the laptop catalog even though they're still there in the original desktop catalog. If I import the photos with "Add new photos to catalog without moving" and then "find the photos" it tells me they're duplicates and can't merge.
I have just bought Lightroom 5 to replace my Lightroom 4. For one reason or another, it was cheaper for me to buy a new version, rather than an upgrade.
What is the best way to get Lightroom 5 to use my Catalogue from Lightroom 4? I am thinking, just open the catalogue (Lightroom 4 Catalog.lrcat). Or is there a better way.
Just one more thing, it seems a little slower than LR4 (the adjustment brush for example is not very responsive).
I have tried copy, move and add, but LR refuses to import any JPGs into the catalog. There is no problem with importing RAW or DNG files. The error message is "cannot copy these files into destination".
I have checked the destination folders, they are the right place, but still won't import. I'm using LR4 on Mac OS 10.7
I have been able to import a catalog from another source before. But with the latest update of Lightroom, there is no longer an option to import a catalog.
I backed up my LR catalog to my C drive before removing the C drive to install as a "normal" hard drive on my new computer.I have installed Lightroom without a glitch but when I try to import the lrcat backed up today, I get "cannot import catalog due to an unexpected error"
How do I get my last backed up catalog into Lightroom on the new computer?!
Why is it (almost) each and every time I attempt to 'export as catalog' a job complete, Lightroom runs into a problem and I am required to close the program?
It has worked in a very small number of instances, though in the majority of cases it is not meeting my needs/functioning as it should, which is starting to become very frustrating. A continuation of this will see to Lightroom 'bulking' out and the experience of this has been that the program is starting to operate more slowely.
I am using an iMac with the latest version of Maverick OS. I am trying to import photos into a new catalog with LR4 (also have tried with the trial version of LR5).I have photos in 226 folders in my pictures folder on my hard drive and am trying to import pictures in some of the folders. When I got to import i get a listing of about 8000 photos showing. When I expand to the picture folder to show all 226 subfolders each subfolder will show the photos inside. However 35 of these folders give a notice "no photos found". (the photos are there when looked at from the finder).
why those 35 folders will not show any photos to import.
I am using lightroom 3.5RC and Mac OS 10.7.1 on a MBP and today I went to import photos from another lightroom 3.5 catalog via the Import From Catalog function and when I did that I got this message.
"Can not import from this catalog at this time. Unexpected error when creating temporary working copy of the catalog." It is not only with this catalog btw. I discovered that I can't import any catalogs into any other catalogs anymore.
I have a LR4.4 catalog that contains thousands of edits and all my publish services. File size is 1.2Gb. I used the LR5 beta and would like to import the edits from that catalog as well as the edits and services from the LR4 catalog.
Here is what I have tried. Open the LR4 catalog in LR5, tell it to upgrade the catalog for use with LR5. This step works without any issues and the edits and services are present. Now I tell LR5 to import from another catalog and select the LR5 beta catalog. LR begins processing but will never complete. Once it gets to checking for changes in duplicates it seems to hang. Checking the Windows Task Manager reveals that LR5 is still processing, but I have let it sit for over a day and it will not complete the process. I have also optimized both catalogs before attempting the import again, but that seemed to have no effect.
The system should have plenty of processing power being that it is an overclocked 6 core Phenom II running at 4.25GHz with 16GB of RAM, but it seems to just never finish.
From LR4 on my desktop PC, I used to be able to select File->Import From Another Catalog..., navigate to a catalog on a networked laptop, select which photos/dates I want to import, then choose to Copy Photos to a New Location and Import. This would both copy the photos over the network to my desktop, and add the photos to my desktop LR catalog - in one step. Always worked great for me for getting travel laptop photos back into my main desktop & LR catalog.
Both desktop and laptop recently upgraded to LR5. But now when I try this same procedure - the "Import From Another Catalog..." dialog no longer has the option to Copy Photos to a New Location and Import. The only options are Add New Photos To Catalog Without Moving and Don't Import New Photos.
Of course I can work around this by doing it with 2-3 extra steps: I can import over the network like above, but choose Add New Photos to Catalog Without Moving and then later copy the files & find the missing photos. Or export to a separate catalog & copy everything, etc.
So what happend to the Copy Photos to a New Location and Import option in LR5? Was this option removed explicitly? Or is there something else I'm missing (file path permissions, etc) that would cause the option to not be shown?
Lightroom 5 64-bit for Windows, ver 5.0 Desktop: Windows 7 64-bit Laptop: Windows 8 64-bit
I replaced my computer, and now reinstalled lightroom and created a new catalog and wanted to import photos and copy from backup, however, lightroom is not offering me the copy function
I have signed up for CC. If I import my LR4 catalog into LR5 and 6 months down the line decide to cancel the cloud and go back to LR4, can I import the LR5 catalog back into LR4?
