Lightroom :: 4 - Import Photos And Videos Grayed Out
Apr 6, 2013
I had this problem in LR3 so I decided to upgrade to LR4 thinking it will be better but same result. I can't import at all. Import Photos and Videos Button in the dropdown is grayed out. Import button is also grayed out! I can't do anything!
I like keeping my videos in a separate directory from my images so they are easy to find and stream with media center. Is there a way to import both images and video from a card at the same time and have the videos go to a different directory than the images?
I have a folder of around 6GB worth of photos (all in JPEG format, and all taken using Nikon D7000 on the same day), then when I imported them into LR4.3, only around 100+ were imported. I then tried to import the remaining photos, but an error came out an said "no photos or videos were found to import".
I just bought Photoshop Elements 11 recently and I'm trying to import photos and videos from my phone, Samsung Galaxy SIII, but having a little trouble.
When I go to "Import from Camera or Card Reader" option and choose my phone from the "Get photos from" drop down menu in "Source" section the "Photo downloaded" finds every single photo and/or video stored on the device and it's memory card but I'm trying to import only photos and/or videos I've shot my self with the phone, witch is kept in an folder named DCIM, but I simply can't figure out how to so my question is: How do I import photos and/or videos from my Android device?
I'm trying to import photos into LR3.3, and the thumbnails are grayed out, as is the import button. The photos come from two other cameras -- one Canon Elf, the other I'm not sure. I received them through dropbox, and they open fine with Bridge and Photoshop CS4.
I recently upgraded my C drive to an SSD and upgraded my D drive to a larger hard drive. Also upgraded Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate. When I open Lightroom 4 (or 3.6 for that matter) all the photos are represented by raised grey rectanges. The file name is correct and the histograms comes up properly. I tried synchronizing folders that did not work. I know the photos are there on the hard drive. Not sure if I have messed up previews somehow. To add to that I have a rather complecated Lightroom folder as far catalog and previews are concerned. Not sure why, but catalog is always a 2-2 version although there is a 2 version folder there as well. To further make it interesting I tried to rename my catalog and previews to (my catalog 4, etc) and only succeeded in creating two more folders but lightroom was still opening in the old 2.2 catalog.
Mostly I want my images to show, but how to consolidate and clean up catalogs and previews as well. Note, Lightroom worked fine before hard drive replacement even with the catalog mess.
I would like to get a brand new 4TB drive to place all of my home videos and photos. I'm trying to decide if I should keep the photos and videos on separate smaller drives or on this single 4TB drive. Also I'm rying to decide if I should import the videos into Lightroom for tagging.
1. Would you recomend using a single drive for all of your photos and videos (I will be using a second drive to backup everything)? Does this slow down LR or cause any other potential issues?
2. Are there any issues with importing tons of videos files ranging anywhere from a few MB to hundreds of GB into LR for tagging?
I've been trying to import a number of videos into LR5 (all .mov) and am running into a bunch of iissues. First of all, the import takes an extremely long time - imorting around 150 videos took over 4 hours, for example. Secondly, once I've imported the videos no thumbnails are created -- they're all grey squares -- and Lightroom then has problems finding the original file for playback, even though the location (on my local drive) hasn't changed.
I have originals .mp4s that were made either with my GoPro (1st gen) or with a video camera and these seem to import just fine But the .mp4s I really want to import are the edited versions that were edited in Corel Photostudio in the 1080p or 720p .mp4 also windows says they are .mp4 the file extensions says its .mp4 also but when I go to properties the edited videos look as if they are audio files but they play just fine in windows media player (and I can see the video content) as for the originals unedited; same thing I can see/play them just fine.
I don't understand why LR4 can't import it? I have tried doing a conversion; but the conversion won't keep it in the same resolution, it tends to want to upscale making the video bigger and more grainy converted/upscaled versions ARE importable too.
Is there a specific .mp4 format/codec LR4 will only accept? If so what is it?
I uploaded some RAW + Jpeg files and converted to them DNG into a folderin My Pictures called '*****_originals'.I've edited some of them in LR and others in PS. From PS, I created a new folder I named '****Edited' and 'Saved As' Jpeg's into this folder! From Lightroom, I exported the ones I'd edited, as Jpegs to the same folder as above. But, when I looked in the folder in Lightrooms Library, only the photo's exported from LR were there....OK, that's fine, as I knew I'd have to 're-import' the PS files back into the LR Catalog BUT, here's the problem....
When I go to import, those photo's are already there but greyed out, so I can import! But when I go back to the Library module again, they're not there? I can see them in finder and in Bridge... is this a Bug?
I have the following issue. I can't import the Panasonic LX3 files in Lightroom 4.x (including 4.2) on my main Windows 7-64bit PC. I get the error message "The movie files contain no video frames". All RAW files from the LX3 are imported correctly!
Strangely, i can import them on my MBP running MacOSX Lion.
I'm following the steps in the following link from Adobe:

The final step, after selecting the folder I want to add, is to select Import. Except, the Import button remains grayed out. I'm not sure what to do in order to select Import and add the folder I already have.
I add five photos to a folder in Lightroom 4.3. The photos are in the specified folder in Windows. Import shows the five photos as imported but greyed out and semi-highlighted. Library does not show these five photos. What can I do?
When I go to import photos into PS from lightroom, I am losing my edits. Not sure what the deal is. I checked the color profile and also proof set up and they seem to be right... [URL]...
since updating from lightroom 4 to lightroom 4.2 I cannot open new photos in My Pictures with lightroom - therefore, I cannot import new photos. I uninsalled the 4.2 - but I still have no option to open photos.
I have Lightroom 5 installed on a Dell desktop running Windows 8. LR 5 won't import any files - they just don't appear in the LR browser. Photos already in the catalog appear as expected. I still have LR 4 installed and the same photos import as expected. The same photos are read as well in Photoshop CS6 and Elements 10. The latest video drivers are installed. As a result, LR 5 is unusable. How to make Lightroom 5 import photos?
My wife imported some images and saved them to an external hard drive. I then took the hard drive with me on an air force deployment to the desert. The photos are still on the memory card, is there a way to reimport them and save them to the desktop? Right now they show up darkend and she cannot check the box to import.
I had repeated crashes today while trying to import photos into Lightroom V4.1. After reading the forum about import problems and suspected causes of peripheral devices, I disconnected an iPad3 from the USB port on my computer. The import problem has disappeared.
I've unchecked the 'don't import suspected dupcliates' box, and still it will not import all my images. I've shut down, restarted, done everything I can think of and still it only imports some of my photos and not all.
I'm getting an error message when trying to import photos. (error, not enough memory) I am re-installing my lightroom on my new desktop from my old laptop.
LR3 will not improt photos from my card off desktop reader. It freezes while "looking for files" when converting Raw to DNG. It's a new problem. Just got new mobile and loaded photos from there (Samsung Galaxy 3). Does that have anythin to do with messing up settings?
