InDesign :: Creating A Table Of Contents?

View 13 RepliesI set up a pretty little table of contents for a handbook and wrestled the styles into place. But, for some reason, I have two page numbers that are wacked out to the right of everything else.
The page numbers are set up on the master page and are very simple. It's the same master for all of the pages.
There are two styles at work in the TOC, messing with those doesnt change anything.
Why would these two, and only these two, get kicked off their mark?
I'm having trouble trying to figure how to create a mini TOC in a book. The content of the book is divided in 6 files.
Sample of how it looks likes
1) - Front cover (Pg 1)
2) - EN (Pg 2-20)
3) - SE (Pg 21-40)
4) - DE (Pg 41-60)
5) - FR (Pg 61-80)
6) - ES (Pg 81-100)
From file 2-6 they have their own TOC. Simple and it works, since each file have their own list.
I'm trying to create a small TOC on the front cover telling me each page numbers for each language file/chapter.
EN............2-20
SE..........21-40
DE..........41-60
FR..........61-80
ES........81-100
At the moment, I do it manually. But, maybe there is no simple solution....
I am wondering if it is possible to generate a table of contents (TOC) within Photo & Graphic Designer 6? I am thinking of a feature that works similar to Microsoft Word's TOC function.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to apply something that would mark a heading according to its level, and then towards the end of my work, generate the TOC, which would be based on marked text.
I'm making a research report on landscape design. The final document would have perhaps pages like 80-90 or so. Earlier I used to make reports and multipage documents on MS Word. While making the contents page, I would have to look at each and every chapter's name, subheading and then add the page number manually. Is there any automatic system in InDesign?
For example if the information about
"Sustainable water management "
is given on page number 63. Then Indesign automatically assigns the page 63 in front of the heading "Sustainable water management " in the contents page?
Is it possible to export the contents Table directly into Excell from AutoCad2012?
I've tried the Data extraction wizard but it seems to export the Table attributes/properties and not the contents of the table.
I am creating some table of contents. The first column contains symbols that are inserted blocks. Now, when I've created dynamic blocks I've made them to have more visibility states. If I insert the block that has such states, only the saved state is visible. Is there any way that I can use more visibility states when inserting some block into table.
At the moment the only solution is to insert another simplified block that I've created just for this insertion. That way my blocks library is getting bigger and bigger only because of this. I don't use simplified blocks in my drawings, except for the thingy mentioned above.
My table function is greyed out. How do I insert a table?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to import a table from Excel into Indesign but can't manage it. The internet is full of the tip to use File-->Place and then choose import options, sheet, cell range, formatted table. This does work, sort of, except the Excel table has no numbers and is formatted all whacky and doesn't have the right color.

View 25 Replies View RelatedI'm creating interactive PDFs for a client that include tables with empty cells that will be populated afterwards (depending on what information a customer puts in on a form).
The forms are created in InDesign and exported as interactive PDFs, but I need to be able to name the live fields (in InDesign) before I export the Interactive PDF, so that I don't have to select each indivual field in the final PDF and rename them.
The reason I want to be able to do this pre-PDF production, is because the forms will be rebranded over and over again and I don't want to have to rename hundreds of cells time and time again in Acrobat Pro.
The deveopler who's populating the cells already has predefined names for them, so I can's simply give him the names that Acrobat automatically defines.
I need to create a 100 -150 magazine that will perfect bound. We have an InDesign file that we normally use for a 28 page saddle-stitch magazine. Should I use this same file and build on it? Or should I create separate files for the different sections? Can I bring the sections all together at some point? What about page numbering? I am obviously new to InDesign.

The specifications of the 200 products are stored in a database and used to generate the 3 pages of specifications using Data merge/XML. At this moment I'm able to generate the catalog without any problems.
Because some of the information on the 3rd sheet is not always needed and can confuse some of our customers we wish te be able to hide it. Is there a possibility to generate a PDF catalog that can be slightly modified by the end-users? For example our products come with different options (6-9 )and we want to show only the image and specifications of the options our clients are interested in. My agents (non InDesign users) want to have a interactive catalog (PDF) in wich they can edit some specifications and then save it as a non-interactive catalog to send to their clients.
I have tried using object states, but this only reacts to my mouseover and click commands and won't stay in the desired state.
I have created a design mainly using dingbat fonts in Photoshop CS2 and want to save it (I think as a TIFF) for use in InDesign CS5. I have tried but when I 'place' to TIFF image in InDesign the quality looks terrible . The document has been created as 600dpi, A5 so 21cm x 14.8cm and I have the color set for CMYK.
When I'm saving the file I'm offered TIFF options, including image compression, for which I have chosen JPG and Maximum quality 12, I've attached a screenshot of the TIFF options.
I am wanting to use XDP as a desktop publisher and can't see any hints on table creation. There are lots of other useful word processing functions but not tables AFAICS.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a line table. Here are the steps I am following :
First I label the lines I have drawn using a line label type for example Bearing over Distance, then I am going to the Annotate tab, Add Tables, Add Line and Curve and once I get to that dialog box I select my table style that I have already created and the label style I chose to label the line and click on the "apply" box and then "ok" and I see the labels such as L1, L2, etc. and all looks good, except now when I go to use that label style Bearing over distance to label another line, it labels the line with the tags and not the bearing and distance, its like the style is now defaulted to labeling tags and not bearing and distance anymore.
I am not sure this is even possible, but could I use some sort of invisible block attribute data and everytime I insert it into a drawing (I use the same block multiple times within a drawing) it would autopopulate fields in a table. For example I have a smoke detector symbol I insert, I also have a specific address associated with every single detection symbol I insert into a drawing, would I be able to attach data such as what type of detector it may be and have the address and type automatically populate in a table everytime I insert my block into a drawing?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been able to create a table, populate the Title and Headers with text. Which is all I want it to do for now. The problem is, I can calculate how wide I want each column, but it never gets drawn with the correct column width.
how to make it use the correct column width specified? Keep in mind all of the column widths may differ.

I'm VERY new with photoshop and I was just wondering (since I'm designing my own website) how to go about creating a section on my page that will have visible borders with rounded corners? Basically just a big square with rounded corners that will have text in it. I don't know if I try and create the borders in Dreamweaver and then use photoshop drawings of the rounded corners or what? Or do I create the whole image in Photoshop?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using Civil 3D 2012. I know how to label a line with bearing and distance. What I would like to do is make a table with these bearings and distances referencing the point numbers. For instance, I have a new ROW line that starts at point 1000 and changes direction at point 1001 and changes direction at 1002 and so on. I need a table that shows Points 1000-1001 is ___ Bearing and ___ Distance.
The lines are not parcel lines; they are only line segments.
is there a way to create a ToC and a Subject Index with Corel Draw?

I have a set of caissons that were shot on separate days, and they started in the middle when they shot them in. I wanted to create a coordinate table, with the points listed from the northernmost point to the southernmost point. I had thought there might be a way to create a table with dynamic input, where I could pick the points as I go along and have the information entered as I pick.
Is there any way to renumber the points via drawing a polyline connecting them, starting with the one I want as #1 and ending with the last one?
I have some data in the form of
point# | X | Y | Desc_1 | Desc_2 | Desc_3 |....... ect
I would like to make an excel table that i can create multiple points from and make that table dynamic, ie if i edit the table the points will change.I would be labeling the points according to the different desc_# in multiple drawings
Is there any way to do this? I have messed with creating a user defined property classification and creating a new point file format, but i want that point file I imported to be dynamic, and if I change values the values will change in all my drawings.
I have had this problem intermittently for a few weeks since going to Inventor 2013 SP1.1. I have a part within an assembly and that part has holes created in it before assembling it with other parts. Now when I try and create a hole table in a drawing of the assembly I cannot select hole edges and the hole table is blank when trying to create it automatically from view selection. I originally thought it may be an alignment issue but I have since aligned everything correctly and it still persists. I can create the hole table if I import in just the part into the drawing but it will not allow me to create the table on the whole assembly.
I can also create the hole table if I use "centred pattern" and create cross hairs on all of the holes however it does not give me correct annotations for the holes as shown in attachment and I can manually change the annotations but seriously this should not be required. As shown in the screen shot it reads as A1 down to K1 instead of A1 to A10. .
I was wondering what is the best way to save a photoshop file such as a business card or stationary labels so they "KEEP" their color you see on screen.
I am already building in CMYK mode. My Client has a nice gray scale scheme but I am worried that the print shop will mess up the colors.
How do I create a custom set of colors and adhere to that scheme throughout the clients stationary and media.
ie. Cards, Labels, Signs, etc.
Is there an option to print a color scale along with the image, sorta like when you calibrate your printer?
So I'm creating a block with a block table and constraints. The constraints such as Geometric Constraints work just as assumed. When adding in dimensional constraints we start to have more fun. So I have dimensional constraints that use other dimensional constraints to manipulate itself.
EX. dimconC = (dimconB-dimconA)
dimconA is 12
dimconB is 14
dimconC would be 2
Now when ever dimconA or dimconB change dimconC would populate accordingly.
With this I wanted to make an attribute that could be placed in instead of a dimensional constant.
EX dimconC = ((Att1*dimconB)-dimconA)
Att1 is 02
dimconA is 12
dimconB is 14
dimconC would be 16
However when trying to place in formula that references a attribute I keep getting an error "A DEPENDENT EXPRESSION CANNOT BE EVALUATED" So I assumed it was missing an expression from the attribute, however once entering an expression in for it I still get the same error.
(full error message attached)Constraint_Error.JPG
Is this something that is not allowed at all or have I over looked something?
The angle or radius are outside the table boundaries. I have used bend tables before and have not run into this. See screenshot. What I don't understand is that in the error dialog box the Thickness is correct the Radii are correct and the Angle is correct except it is showing a -90 degrees. Is that the problem? The negetive? Why is it showing a negative number. I can't change the way the part is formed. The problem seems to be with the lower left hand curl. It does go ahead and flatten it, but I don't trust the results when I have the three errors.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn our company, we put Excel tables in our drawings. The reason we've chosen for Excel-tables is that we can adjust the layout of the table quite easily. These tables consist of grouped cells in a particular company-specific layout. We select the range of the desired cells, copy and paste them in our AutoCAD drawing. This drawing is sent to our customers. The disadvantage of this method is, that when our customers (who use CAD-software of other brands) open the dwg, they don't see the table, but some kind of picture of the table.
Is there a way to 'explode' the excel-table, but keep the specific layout of the table? For attributes in blocks there's the 'Explode Attributes'-command in the Express-tools, but is there something similar for Excel-tables?

Is there a way to setup vertical alignment of text in a cell for the entire table, when using Table Tool? It is possible for a single cell, but when selecting a table (or multiple cells) this option is not available.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to force the table and table text height to stay constant despite the scale? I can do it for Point Label Styles with an Expression. But in 2011 there is no way to build an expression for a table style.
I want to create tables in the drawing where the points are and then plot them from a drawing they're Xrefed in to. The tables are too small but zooming in doesn't make them any bigger because the scale of the viewport changes and they adjust.
