View 5 RepliesI am working with scripting in Ai, fill gradient color in TextFrame. I search in this forum but the other topics fill color to path or line. For now, I can make a gradient color, but I don't know how to apply it to textframe.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out a way to automate a simple, yet repetative process I do countless times a day. Ideally, I'd like to tie it to a keystroke to speed up my workflow.
I work on line art and colorways for footwear, so the way I'm coloring these shapes and strokes break apart the different materials and pieces of the shoe.
While coloring line art, I work with Pantone spot colors as fills for closed path objects. I then have to manually apply that same color to the stroke, set the stroke to 0.5px weight, convert that spot stroke color to CMYK, and add 15% to the K value.
I found some code in an older post for applying the actively selected object's fill color to the stroke, but I'm having but I'm having trouble with the next step of figuring out how to take that spot stroke color and convert it to a CMYK build that I can then add 15% black to. Is this something that's even possible? I've spent about an hour playing with the script and have only had luck matching the fill color or turning the stroke white.
I'm trying to read a text file into a textFrame. It reads in but is not including linefeeds so it's just one big long line of text. I'm using the following code to read the file. I attempted to insert a character after each readln() but that didn't work. I also tried creating a variable that the readln() was stuffed into before setting the textFrame.contents to the variable, but that didn't work either. I'm stumped.
while (! notesDoc.eof) {
noteTextRef.contents += notesDoc.readln();}
This is my very first attempt at a script:
* this script will prompt the user for a file name and location and then save the current file as a .pdf with secure save options*/
var curDoc = app.activeDocument;
var destName = prompt ("Enter a Filename Daniel", "", "Save With Security");
var destFolder = Folder.selectDialog('Select which folder to save to :');
saveFileToPDF(destFolder+ '/' + destName); // not sure if i need this here ?
[Code] .......
i can do the math of (artboard width)-(text width) / 2 is start point of text but how do i find out the text width and the artboard width?
How to divide all textFrames in one-character-per-textFrame?
Example: the textFrame "Letters" will be divided in 7 textFrames: "L", "e", "t", "t", "e", "r", "s".
Select same fill color with java script and stroke color tool.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI think I might be doing this wrong, I am trying to get contents of a specific textFrame within first group on layer called "page numbers"
It seems to work, but is a bit sketchy, the documentation indicates textFrame is all the text frames in a document, and that textFrameItem should be the specific one within collections of groups etc, maybe I am misunderstanding. this is what I am using:
var existingPageNumbers = app.activeDocument.layers.getByName('page numbers').groupItems[0].textFrames[0].contents;
is this correct approach...?
I'm trying to find the smallest textframe within a group and then matching that textframe font size to the minimum size allowed for printing. Everything else works, except I can't figure out how to resize the textframe while also resizing its parent, the group.
#target illustrator
docRef = app.activeDocument;
gpRef = docRef.groupItems[0];
var gpHeight = gpRef.height;
[Code]....
I'm not even sure if I'm going about this the right way. Hoping a fresh set of eyes can take a look
I need the finished script to create a rectangle with no fill and a 20% gray stroke to outline each artboard. I dug this up off these boards, which works perfectly except the rectangles created have no fill or stroke. certainly save me a lot of time drawing rectangles on a daily basis.
#target illustrator
var docRef = app.activeDocument;
var artboardRef = docRef.artboards;
for(i=0;i<artboardRef.length;i++){
var top=artboardRef[i].artboardRect[1] ;
var left=artboardRef[i].artboardRect[0];
var width=artboardRef[i].artboardRect[2]-artboardRef[i].artboardRect[0];
var height=artboardRef[i].artboardRect[1]-artboardRef[i].artboardRect[3];
var rect = docRef.pathItems.rectangle (top, left, width, height);
rect.fillColor = rect.strokeColor = new NoColor();
}
Is there a way to send a selected textFrame item to a layer using javascript?
I don't mind if it is send to current layer or some other way to accomplish the task.
(Using Adobe Illustrator CS4)
Is there a way to select similar objects (by stroke color) programatically?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a number of art items on a document, some of them are filled with spot colors and some of them are with process color.Is there any method by which I can find out which color type(spot or process) is applied to the selected art item?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to find out how bright is an color? I need to find the darkest color in document's swatches. My solution would be to convert (script internally, without actually making any changes in document) swatches to grayscale, compare them and pick the darkest. But how to convert swatch defined in undefined mode (they might be in lab or cmyk) to grayscale?
I found in 'js scriping reference' a method "convertSampleColor", but I have no idea how to use it. Any examples?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set the stroke style for a path item I've drawn through JavaScript, however I can't find a way to set the stroke alignment for my path item.
I've checked the Illustrator JavaScript reference but I can't seem to find that option in there.I would expect something like:
pathItem.strokeAlignment = StrokeAlignment.OUTSIDE; // This doesn't work, what is the correct way to set the stroke alignment from JavaScript?
If I change the option in the Actions Panel it comes up as 'Set Stroke/Alignment: Outside', so there must be an equivalent way of setting it from JavaScript. Is there a way of converting Actions to JavaScript so you can see which properties and attributes are being set on the object? What is the correct way to set the strok alignment from JavaScript?
does the document have a property that can be set to true or false for scale stroke? I didn't see it in the documentation, maybe there is another way?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo here's what I wrote to try and find and delete all pathItems within a document that lack a fill and lack a stroke.
var doc = app.activeDocument;
for (i=0; doc.pathItems.length>i;i++) {
alert(doc.pathItems[i].name + " " + doc.pathItems[i].fillColor.name)
[Code]....
But alas, neither seems to do the trick, the first one makes sense why it wouldnt work since it says that the color is "undefined" but it isnt a string called "undefined." So I'm not sure how to go about this at all now.
I have created a path with multiple strokes, which differ in weight and color. I can save that as a profile but it's really tedious if I want to alter the different colors and stroke weights.
I can't seem to do record an action which will automatically alter those parameters (f.ex. raise each strokeweight by 10pt.). All I get is just an action that will recreate the altered state during recording (f.ex. stroke weights 20, 10 >--Action--> 15, 5). I cannot start the action and raise or lower my stroke weights at once based on the current parameters.
I have a bit of a problem with apple script, I'm creating a Text item and setting the stroke to 0.4pt then i want the stroke miter limit to be set to 2 but it wont work i get :-
Adobe Illustrator got an error: Can’t set properties of text frame 1 of layer 1 of document 1 to {stroke miter limit:2}. (error -10006) but im am able to apply a stroke miter limit of 2 on a path item, is there a way of converting the text frame to a path item then applying the stroke miter limit to it.
on TicketFront_(posX, posY)
tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
activate
set ticketItem to make new text frame in theDoc with properties {contents:{"Some Text"}, position:{(35.7 + posX) * 2.834645, (173.5 - posY) * 2.834645}}
set properties of the text of ticketItem to {text font:text font "Raleway-Thin", size:5.54, justification:center, fill color:{class:spot color info, tint:100.0, spot:spot "PANTONE 4535 U" of document 1}, stroke color:{class:spot color info, tint:100.0, spot:spot "PANTONE 4535 U" of document 1}, horizontal scale:126.46, stroke weight:0.4}
[code]...
ive also tryed putting convert to paths ticketItem in the script which converts the text to paths but the stroke miter limit still dont work.
Is it possible to use a JS script to find/replace artboard names? For example if I have artboards that are currently named 39 and 42...can I use a script to change the name of the art boards to 39E and 42C etc?
Also part of the script a simple find/replace of text on locked layers.
I'm trying to find a way to loop thru all items in an Illustrator document and get their stroke and fill color. Sometimes items are spots, sometimes documents are set to RGB or CMYK, etc, so swatches can be a mixture of things. Is there an easy way to get the swatch name for each item?
For example, I can check if an item is a spot, and get it's color like so:
var c = app.activeDocument.pageItems[0];
if (c.strokeColor.typename === 'SpotColor') {
var s = c.strokeColor.spot.name;
}
But if I try to get the name from an item colored 'Black' (which is set to Process Color, CMYK), then I'll need to do something else like:
var c = app.activeDocument.pageItems[0];
if (c.strokeColor.typename === 'CMYKColor') {
var s = c.strokeColor.name; // This returns undefined - not sure what I'm doing!!!
}
Is there an easier way to achieve this, other than getting the typename of each item, and then trying to figure out it's color name? I was hoping something like this would work:
var c = app.activeDocument.pageItems[0].strokeColor.name;
How can I easily find a character if its attribute is different from others? There might be some easier way than compare it one by one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a way to get the links and link statuses in Adobe Illustrator. It doesn't seem to be at all similar to InDesign DOM.
What I'd like to be able to do is check whether a file has a missing link. I have been able to trace it to a "placedItem" which is inherently a "pageItem". So is it possible to find the link status? Been going through the DOM for about a half hour now and still can't find it.

Are there any scripts to find and replace layer names?
There is an excellent script available for Photoshop which allows you to not only replace words in layer names, but also insert words as Prefixes, Suffixes and Sequential Numbers. The illustrator version of this script only allows sequential numbering: It doesn't offer find and replacing of words.
Ideally, it would be great if there was something that could do multiple find and replaces in one go:
(E.g.
You have layers like this Car, Dog, Bat
You enter: car(Option1), dog(Option2), Bat(Option3)
Your layers then become: Option1, Option2, Option3).
)
I have multiple documents using text as symbols. I need to change a ® 2013 to a ® 2014 within the symbols. Without having to go into each document and double click on the symbol or break the link, is there a way to do a batch find and replace that will search within symbols to change text?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a question regarding illustrator. Let's say I have a circle with blue fill and red stroke. And I place an image in the illustrator file. Now I want to change the red stroke of my circle to let's say a purple color by sampling the color from the image.
How can I achieve that with a eye dropper tool? Every time when I try to sample a color from the image, the whole circle will change to purple instead of just the stroke? I have tried multiple key combination, shift, alt, ctrl but they all don't work.
I am searching for a simple automated Find and Replace script, the idea is that in Excel the Find and Replace with texts are located. The script finds the textblock in Illustrator and replaces it with the value from Excel "New number".
Example Illustrator:

Is it possible to write an Illustrator (CS4) script that would find and replace 2 instances of text using the actual file name to supply the changing text?
Our current file naming system uses a Part Number, Catalog Number and Run Date. (example: 123456_ABCDEF_2014 JN)We are currently saving a master file as the new Part Number and simply doing 2 separate find and replace functions for the Catalog Number and Run Date. Unfortunately we have over 500 parts to change and thought we could narrow down the 1000 find and replace to just 500. Although this may not appear like such a time saver, the key factor would mean entering the changing data just once per file, minimizing errors and eliminating proof reading the actual file.
Here is what I have used for a simple find and replace script, but I cannot seem to find any information to connect the file name data.
[code]
var active_doc = app.activeDocument;
var search_string = /ABCDEF/gi; // g for global search, remove i to make a case sensitive search
var replace_string = "GHIJKL";
var text_frames = active_doc.textFrames;
var search_string2 = /1234 XX/gi; // g for global search, remove i to make a case sensitive search
var replace_string2 = "5678 YY";

One more questions is if there might be a CharacterAttribute who belongs no characterstyle? Can I iterate charaterstyles to know all the font, bold .. information for all teh textranges?
