How do you design something that you can both print and display on screen without compromising the colors?

Illustrator :: Line Won't Draw Straight Horizontally

Jun 15, 2012

I am trying to draw a straight line using the line tool, but when I hold down the shift button to draw a straight horizontal line it draws it a an angle. vertical line will go straights, but not the horizontal. I also noticed that the cursor now has an has a horizontal arrow with a vertical line at the end of it in the bottom right corner of the cursor when the line tool or shape tool is used. I went into prefrences and checked the constrain angle but it is set at 0 so I am not sure what to do or what happened. It was working fine and then all of a sudden this happened. Is there a button I may have hit that would cause this? how do I get it to draw straight lines again? I just noticed it wont draw 45 degree angles either. it sticks to angles a few degrees above and below horizontal.

Photoshop :: Designing Tabs In Illustrator

Apr 26, 2005

I've used illustrator a bit for drawing pictures, but never for web graphics... I need to create some tabs (for the top of a webpage). Maybe illustrator isn't the most common tool for this but it's the one I can use the most.

Anyone know of any tutorials that might be useful (i've not found any) or have any tips for making the tabs look nice (e.g. what effects to use)

Is there any reason to not layout the whole composition in AI and instead do it in PS? Is it just a matter of preference or are there strong reasons to go one way or the other?

Illustrator :: Designing Flyer Bleed To Edges

If it does bleed to the edges, do I only need to make sure that the artwork on my artboard touches the edges of my artboard? OR is there something else that needs to be done?

Illustrator :: Designing Print For Thinkboard (whiteboard)

May 8, 2013

design a print layout for a thinkboard that would be printed onto a dry erase magentic thinkboard.  The board would include six seperate sections with topics such as: purpose, one-year plan, core values, community events, etc... My question for the forum is, would adobe Illustrator be the best program for this purpose?  I have been a adobe creative cloud user for almost two years now and I have access to all of the programs on the cloud service.  I thought I could just do it through photoshop as well but Illustrator came first to mind.  What do you think?

Illustrator :: Designing Business Card - Bleeds And Trim Marks

Nov 19, 2013

So I am desinging a business card for a company I work for. The company we are sending them off too obviously needs to have the bleed and trims marks. The only thing I can't figure out is how do I make the bleed marks visible to them? When I print the document it shows me the trim marks but since I have a white background, it looks as if there is no border. Should I add a border to the actual Artboard?

I need to be able to horizontally displace an area of vertical stripes using a specific greyscale displacement map.
It’s fairly simple in Photoshop but I would much prefer vector output.

O.k., I could do it in Photoshop and then vectorize the result with Live Trace, but is there a less roundabout method?

Illustrator :: Designing Cartoon Character - Remove Jagged Edges From Vectors

May 29, 2013

I was designing some cartoon character, but I've noticed something, I'm working on CMYK and I've got some black lines on the top layer, and some red and violet color shapes in the bottom layer for the background color, but like if the colours weren't mixing allright in the edges, like some kind of jagged white fine edge and I don't know how to get rid of it.

Here are some jpeg of the problem: [URL] ....

Perhaps it's not as strong as I see it on the CMYK Illustrator vector, but it's pretty annoying on the final result. How to get rid of these things?

Illustrator :: Is It Possible To Lock Artboard

Nov 22, 2012

I have a big artboard with a simulation of a webpage, and a smaller artboard within it, where I'm designing the artwork, so that I know how the big picture will look. In the end, I intend to export the contents of the small artboard. The problem is that whenever I click by accident on the small artboard, my view of the web page gets off-centre.So in short, If I could just lock the small artboard, that would solve this annoyance. For now, I have two options: either delete the artboard and set it back in the end (it's got to be perfeclty positioned though) or, quite practically, just create a custom view with a shortcut that I  can use instead of the "Actual size" one (Cmd+1).

Illustrator :: Hide Everything Outside The Artboard?

Mar 12, 2008

I'm designing some business cards, which have an 1/8" bleed, along with elements that hang outside of the border of the card. Is there a way in Illustrator CS3 that I can say, "hide everything outside of the Artboard" so I can see what the finished product will look like?

I know I could print them out or output to PDF and see it without the non-Artboard items, but these approaches seem clumsy and labor intensive. I'd like it if I could have some sort of "cropped view"--where everything not on the Artboard is hidden--to work in.
