I have an image that has a white background but that darkens in the immediate neighborhood of the image in question. So I do a bucket fill (red) with the threshold of 15 that sets the entire white(ish) area to red. So far so good. But then when I switch to fill this red area to white with the same threshold, I find small pixels of red adjacent to the image. I don't see how that is happening since the first fill set the entire filled region to one color (red) and I would expect that the second fill would completely replace all red with my new color (white).

Ok, this is about as basic as you can get. What would prevent the paint bucket tool from working? Here are the steps I am taking to try to create a web page: Clicked on:
File->New Set 800 x 600, RGB Color, 72 Pix, and Contents is White.
Selected my foreground color and set it to E0EFFF
Clicked Paint bucket Tool
Clicked in the middle of the page.
Nothing happens.
Also tried using the Rectangular Marquee Tool to select an area within the page, and tried using the pain bucket to fill that in, but that didn't work either.

I've been having an issue with the paint bucket tool; when I fill in an area with the tool it leaves a thin white border between the area and any lines drawn with the paintbrush tool.
(see attachment) how this can be remedied? Since I'm working on a comic and going back over every line filling in the color takes far too much time.

On a new layer, I used the line and curve tools to draw the outline of a human figure. I want to fill the shape with a color. However, I can't figure out how to select the entire figure so that I can fill it using the Paint Bucket tool. How can I do that?

I have been working with Paint.net for a couple of years and have never had this issue before. Suddenly, today, I tried using paint bucket to fill in a square and it filled in the entire image. I don't know if I accidently changed some setting on accident or what. how to make this stop so that the paint bucket only fills in the area I have outlined for it?

im trying to make some text appear over a texture, and as I've been using programs such as GIMP and Paint.net before I know from them that you can have layers do this. Layers have depth settings, so layer 1 will be the lowest and so on. But it don't find these settings in autocad.

I'm starting to get serious about photography. I've shot a batch of photos that need manual processing. There are a couple of steps where I should be able to save one or two keystrokes every time. This may sound minor, but when I have to do it time after time after time, it gets annoying. This is not intended to be a rant, but rather a request for info about changing defaults to speed things up for me.
I'm running Gimp 2.6.11 on Gentoo linux (64-bit). I've looked at"Edit ==> Preferences", but can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
1) I need to crop photos, but the manual "crop tool" is not the best fit. I prefer to use "Image ==> Canvas Size". My problem is that the Width+Height aspect ratio defaults to staying constant. I.e. if I crop the X size, the Y size changes proportionally. I do NOT want that. I have to manually click on the link to break the linkage. Sometimes I forget, which can get really annoying, when cropping in one dimension crops the other as well. How can I change the default to not link the X+Y sizes?
2) Saving stuff to PNG *) After having done any cropping, I obviously want to save my work.Saving to PNG pops up a dialog about "Your image should be exported before it can be saved...", Is there any way to get the PNG save routine to "just do it", rather than popping up a dialogue?
*) If I'm saving to a new PNG file, I get *YET ANOTHER DIALOGUE* with settings for compression/interlacing/etc/etc. I never change the default settings, so this is another extra annoyance to me. How can I get the"save as" command to "just do it"?
I know the above may sound minor, but it does get annoying after the umpteenth time.

I've got an image I'm trying to make my wallpaper thats a 1024 x 768 image. My screen resolution is 1680 x 1050 so if I use the image and use the "fill" option to have the image fit my background perfectly it won't fit and some stuff gets cut off. I have to use the "fill" option instead" of "fit" which gives it borders kind of like of how I want because I'm rotating wallpapers and this is the only one that doesn't work under "fill"
What I want to do is just import my image into gimp and then add some paint on the right and left outside the image to make it wider so it would fit as my background without some stuff getting cut out.
Is there a way to import an image into gimp and then add some paint outside the image and then save the new image with the paint outside the original image onto my hard drive?

How do I bucket fill the way Paint does, where it fills every thing of a similar color? (or every thing adjacent, I don't remember.) It keeps filling my entire canvas, instead of the area I want.

I made an outline of an image with the line tool and I read online that it only creates vectors or something. The solutions online told me to rasterize or flatten my layers. So I rasterized them but the paint bucket fills the whole screen with no regards to the lines I made.
Bottom Line: I made an outline using Line Tool, rasterized all my layers, used the paint bucket but the paint bucket covers the entire screen. I'm 100% sure there aren't any "holes" between the line segments btw.

I was positively surprised to find out that many of the options in the tutorial are also in Gimp. However there are something I could not find and I am not sure if this is because they are named differently or else because they are still not there.
The first thing I did not find is "Convert for Smart Filters". In the tutorial it says using this "you can apply filters to the photo while leaving your original in tact. It's a non-destructive way of applying filter effects, as you'll be able to adjust the filters you've applied at any time. First you'll get a message saying the layer will be converted into a Smart Object.".
Another thing I could not find is "Vignette" and "Midpoint"options in Lens Correction (in Gimp I found Lens Distortion) window. Do these exist in Gimp? or can be created with some other filter?

I want to know what is the better angle for drawing isometric stuff , Searching came up with 30 or 26.565 . however , i find 26.565 easier to draw with the pencil tool and i think it looks better . But 30 is very simple to draw because Paint.net do it when pressing Shift with the line tool .
So both drawing is okay , but i want to see your opinions about which one looks more like a professional isometric style , Here is an image of two boxes:

I am working on a project where I am doing hand drawn rotoscope (think waking life). For larger areas I am drawing the outline and then filling the shape with the paint bucket. The problem is that the fill doesn't go all the way to the edge of the outline. The anti-aliasing on the brush seems to be creating it, but I don't want to turn anti-aliasing off. It will be a huge time saver for me to figure this out.

I am used to work with Photoshop. Unfortunately there is a bug in the paint bucket tool of Photoshop CS6. I made all updates up to 13.0.1 (x64).
Description: The paint bucket tool is very tricky to use now. If you want to fill a certain empty area of a picture with a simple color, it often does not do that. My clicks are totally correct, also the position ... but it does not take it. Sometimes I have to zoom in some 100% until my clicks are successful and the desired areas are filled with color.

I would like to know how to fill an object on a layer using paintbucket and then isolate the fill onto its own layer. I swear I've done this before, but may have been dreaming. I am using a base drawing and would like to overlay fills and have the ability to control what is seen by turning on and off layers of paintbucket without having to duplicate that base drawing. Did that make sense? I am trying to avoid drawing an excessive amount of shapes.

I was trying to go through the blue metal shpere tutorial and I got stuck. I drew mt circle with the marqee tool and then I tried to fill it with a different color.
The paint bucket did put the other color in but it didn't fill it all the way. It was a solid color in the center of the sphere but it started to fade out the further out you went. I just want it to fill in solid not fade. What is the problem here?

How to clean screenshots that contain text or other stuff overlapped in an image.
Here's an example:
I'd like to know if it's possible to remove the overlapped bits of screenshots in the upper and bottom left corners and the text in-between using GIMP. The second picture is merely for reference of the material missing(I'm not sure if it can actually be used because the quality is not the same, and I believe the colors are a little off). And if it's indeed possible, how it can be done.

I am unsure how to do one particular step however. Under 'Step 2', it reads:
"Next add a new layer to the image, and use the bucket to fill it with your tileable noise."
I can activate the bucket tool, but what am I doing with it?

I'm trying to change the color palette of a sprite's gif in GIMP, but I can't get the bucket tool to put the right color in to each layer.
Here's a screenshot of the gif opened up in GIMP with only the first frame visible.
Next, I selected one of the colors in the frame.
Then, I clicked on the new foreground color and set the blue and green sliders to 0.
Then, I selected the Select By Color tool, and selected the area with the old color.
Last, I used the Bucket Fill tool (making sure that FG color fill and Fill whole selection were chosen on the left) to add the new color, but I got a completely different color in its place.
