Corel PHOTO-PAINT X5 :: Monitor Calibration - Pictures Too Bright / Dim
Apr 20, 2011
I can't get my monitor calibration to suit everybody. Some people have told me that my pictures are too bright. Others say that they are too dim
So I am looking for a monitor calibrator which will automatically set brightness and contrast. Contrary to popular opinion, I am not concerned with color accuracy. My experience has been that the ICC IEC 61966-2.1 profile will give pleasing color results even if not always accurate. As best as I recall, my Huey (now lost) asked me to set brightness and contrast.

I am trying to figure out if i can take a picture and edit the border so that the picture is in the shape of a star or a circle? The reason i ask is my mom uses this software to make T-Shirts and she needs to know if there is a way to make the photos into different shapes as opposed to just the rectangle picture

Joelle_s_flower_perspective.jpg
What's the best focal length for taking pictures of flowers. OOPS I meant, what's the best subject to camera distance for taking pictures of flowers.
We have to ask the resident expert on perspective. Joelle is the resident expert in the PSP newsgroup on perspective.
Joelle's pictures show an incredible mastery of achieving a desired depth of field (aka perspective).Look at the attached images. Both have flat lighting. Neither have any artifacts of lighting, placement, backgrounds, etc. to achieve or remove the sense of depth.
Yet the first image is distinctly three dimensional. The second image is distinctly two dimensional (oriental style). It looks like magic to me.

There is an vast amount of information on this topic, that topic being LCD monitor calibration. Some LCD have presets, theater, games, etc. I want to calibrate my LCD so that if someone else is viewing my work on their monitor and they complain it is too light or to dark, I can say it is your monitor.
One of my LCD has two presets that are of interest 'standard' & 'sRGB' my other LCD doesn't have any presets. What is the best or near best calibration I can manually set both monitors too, if this is even possible on LCD.

I was wondering what people were using for a calibration tool for monitors. This is not my profession so I am not looking to spend $500+ on a calibration tool but it seems like there is some fairly good units out there for under $300.

I am trying to change the background of a photo. Not just change the color but change the color AND make it keep it's original shading, etc. I have some family photos we had made recently and they used a beige color draping for the background. The ones we had made before had a black draping. I was wondering how I could go about using some sort of additive coloring to transform the varying shades of beige to the same varying shades of black.
I have already used the masking tool to separate the background from the rest of the photo.

I have recently bought a new Sony LCD screen and would like to know the procedure to calibrate it so that what I visually see on the screen matches - as faithfully as possible - what I get out of my printer.... Is it possible or am I asking too much? I tried to calibrate the monitor by the gamma utility that comes with PS 7 but the sliders that I have to move to calibrate the screen are stationary and wouldn't move.

I have had three computers using Photoshop (both PC and Mac) using both Epson and HP printers. The color calibration was not perfect on any of those setups but close enough were only minor tweaks were needed between the monitor and printer output.
My new Mac G5 and Epson R1800 however is WAY off. The colors on my images are coming out extremely saturated. I am in RGB mode. Does anyone have any ideas why this should be so far off and, if so, what I can do to correct it without going to a complete calibration procedure.

Is there an easy way to do color tints on a photo in PhotoPAINT? And by that I don't mean just correcting the tint, I mean converting a regular photo into one that has a single color tint (e.g., yellow, red, etc.). I've tried graying it out and then adding a transparent color layer over it, but I'm not getting the result I'm looking for.
Also, while I'm at it, are there any (current) books out that cover PhotoPAINT in depth? I know that the official DRAW book has a section on it, but it's pretty basic.

I would like to use a photo frame from connect, and keep it in the Effects>Creative>Frame menu of frames. I have downloaded and clicked and dragged the frame to my image, but I would like to reuse this frame. Is it possible to add it to the menu? I can download it to the menu - but it is a temporary item in the list of views to the right, which can be replaced from any of the permanent members of the dropdown selection of frames on the left of the Frame menu. I would like a frame to become one of those "permanent frames."

I am making a background image for a website in Draw. The main part is Black.
I export as a jpg and the image looks fine when I view it.
Then if I open it in photo-paint the black is not black, but rather has a grey color to it. The image is exported fine and looks great when viewing it with the normal windows photo viewer program.
Something is happening when it is opened up in photo paint I think.

I recently had a computer virus. The hard drive was scrubbed, and we had to reinstall all our programs.
Now, on my CorelDraw X3 graphics suite, the photo paint program is only partially functional. The clone and paint tools do not work anymore. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times, rebooted the computer, but no progress. We have Windows XP, the same as before.

When I open JPEGS or RAW images in photoshop they have a dull, flat color to them. This is happening after recently buying a NEW PA271W wide-gamut display and calibrating it using Spectraview 2. It doesn't matter whether I have the Working Space in PS set to Adobe RGB or sRGB under color settings... The only way I can make my image look normal is to go under settings and ASSIGN PROFILE to Adobe RGB. It looks fine then. I could live with that, except the bigger problem is that I begin my editing process in RAW, where the colors are also looking flat. The best I can tell, there is no way to assign a profile at this stage...
I've been working in photoshop many years and I do know that RAW images have a 'flatter' appearance to being with, but this is something completely different. For example, when I slide photoshop onto my other monitor next to it (I have multiple monitors) - the color reverts to the normal color I want . And if I then slide photoshop back onto my new NEC monitor, the normal color actually stays intact for about two seconds, then reverts back to the dull color. So I am unable to begin my work process in RAW since the colors are wrong. Also, I know that my new monitor is capbable of displaying my images in their proper colors because when I use any of several different image viewers I have - irfanview, etc. - everything is fine. It's only in photoshop.
