AutoCad :: Put Profile Image Generated From Google Earth?
Feb 19, 2012
Lets say I wanted to put a profile image generated from google earth (a Jpg or Bmp ) on a layer in a side view of autocad for reference, How would I insert it. I have done that with 2008 but can't do it in 2012.The image from google earth has dimensions on it so it would be easy to scale properly to my drawing. So I would like to be able to put it on my dwg. I don't know what (tags means on this page. Also I have saved the image on my computer and I have tried to show it on this post but don't know how. The image is a jpg The format of this posting is asking for a url. as you will see I tried to put C:usersonkelbobdesktopprofile.jpg below but it didn't work.

I just installed 2013 on my pc yesterday. The first task I was given was to import a Google Earth image into AutoCAD to try to get some dimensions on a house for an exhibit. I open Google Earth and set my location to import, then I go to the Render tab, select Set Location, I click Import the current location from Google Earth, click Continue, then i get an error message saying Class not registered.

The AUGI Magazine (Page43) this month has information on a free download called CAD to Earth. Available Jan1, 2013. Is this the resolution to future downloading and using Google Images in our drawings?

For our field layouts we simply copy and paste image from google earth then scale them (using CTRL + C and CTRL + V).For some reason now, my image that was already pasted into a drawing now only shows the border of the image, not the image itself. Same story with any new images I try to paste in. How to fix this back so I can view my images?

I am trying to import a surface and Image from Google Earth. Basically my steps are as follows:
start GE and C3D find area that I need on GE and zoom in under C3D, insert GE Image and Surface (then it goes straight into select point, and rotation)
Like most discussions i've read.., the import slows down at 49%, and then it chugs for hours if I let it. So i have to cut the cord and re-start both programs.
I saw in a discussion that there are settings that we can change the rows and columns to something like 70x70.
however.... I cannot find where to update this. I typed importgesurface, and clicked on the ribbon as well..., then tried to right click, but it does not take me to the settings. I also figured that I might have to run C3d as admin, but no luck either.
find these settings so I can change them to import a surface and image that is about 15acres?
Running:
Sony Vaio
intel core i7
8GB Ram
64bit Windows 7 Pro

I want to take a google or bing map along with its different zoom levels and convert it into an autoCAD image.
Is this possible without using 3rd party software?
The end goal is to essentially have a replica of google-maps in terms of zooming and detail, + the ability for me to add links to the map which take me to different pages/areas of the map.
The best I have been able to come up wtih so far is taking screen captures at various zoom levels and attempting to vectorize the images OR taking screen caps at different zooms and spanning between different zooms via page switching creating the illusion of zooming, both of which are adequate as far as functionality is concerned, but I want things the design to be a little more robust if possible.

I imported Google earth surface (at eye alt 600m) to civil 3d 2012 and created an alignment of length 181m.
When I exported same alignment to Google earth , it showed the length as 190m ( the difference increases with increase in length of alignment) And also the profile view of the alignment in the Civil D & Google earth varies.

I am using Autocad LT 2013. I wish to use Autocad to draw subdivision lines and need to overlay satellite imagery (Google Earth or Google Maps) in tandem with Garmin GPS waypoints taken in the field.
In the 'type a command' ribbon, when I type in 'GEOGRAPHICLOCATION' and select 'Import the current location from Google Earth' (opens Google Earth, where you can retrieve a location to import).
Then a window appears which says 'Navigate to the location in Google Earth that you want to import before continuing (for best results, configure the view in Google Earth to look directly over the location that you want to import).
When I select 'continue' the command ribbon asks that I, 'select a point for the location <0, 0, 0>:
I have looked at the co-ordinates on google earth and attempted to enter but it does not feel right. Then says 'specify the north direction or (angle):s, then 'Point or option keyword required'.
Any way to have the ability to draw subdivision lines on satellite imagery. Garmin's Basecamp will allow drawing on top of google earth but I do not want tracks, I will only use the waypoints made by the gps device, but I need to draw measured lines that reflect the co-ordinates of the location.

I have modeled a building that's a typical shoe box (rectangular shape building).
When I searched the address in Google earth, the true north of the site is not perpendicular to the building: it's angled.
When I chose "Acquire from Google earth" at the Site level, it gave me exactly what I saw in Google earth.
My question is:
I have finished the model of the building in Revit which doesn't align with what I acquired from Google earth. How do you align the model to the Google earth image? Do you have to literally rotate the entire building to align the Google earth image?
Also is there a difference between Google earth and Google earth pro for this task?

I'm trying to load the Google Earth Extension in AutoCAD Map 3D 2011 on a 32 bit machine (XP)
I keep getting this error in Map: Import GE Image unknown command.
Demandload is set to 3. I have loaded the Google Earth.cuix. I have added it the support file search path.
We have it loaded on many machines that are 64 bit and have no problems. Is there something I have to do with the 32 bit machine?

Months back I did this project with multiple surfaces and exported them to Google Earth with no problem. Today, I'm trying to update a surface with some changes. After the changes, I tried to re-export it to Google Earth, but for some reason it's coming in really small. I have my units and zones set to what they have always been. The surface is highlighted in yellow, but it should take up roughly the size of the red circle.

I am using AutoCAD LT 2010 and I am wondering how I can upload from my dwg file onto Google Earth? We do have one user at work who has a drawing that we believe was uploaded onto Google Earth from AutoCAD but it appears it is loaded onto Google Earth using a KMZ file. Would I need to create a KMZ plotter or am I looking in the total wrong direction when trying to get this onto Google Earth?

Is there a way to export a layer from Map 3D to google earth? It appears the built in google earth extension only exports linework that is part of the DWG and not GIS layers.
For example, I have arcview shapefiles of drainage areas for a storm drain report that have been connected to throught the data connect palette, and stylized through the task pane. I would think there should be an easy way to export this drainage layer directly to a KML file that can then be opened up in Google Earth. How to go about it other than converting a map to a dwg and then exporting it to GE?

I am using the DWGPublishToGE tool in AutoCAD Map 3D 2012. I can get the images and blocks to finally show up in a fairly clear manner. I was using earlier versions of AutoCAD before and everything was exporting all choppy.
Now that I have the linework in I was hoping to accomplish two more things:
The line types aren't coming across properly (e.a.: dashed lines are continuous)The text, both within blocks and along the path, only comes in as text. It's not fixed to where it is in the drawing. For example, if I have a block with HH in it the line work comes in normally but the text part of the block does not.
See my two images I have attached. The first is the CAD version and what I am hoping to get to in GE. The second is what is happening in GE.

My drawing is set to state plane and feet. when I import GE the elevations are different that those reported on the GE screen. For example at a given location GE reports 538 but the c3d surface report 164 a factor of 3.28. sounds like a meter thing going on. is this normal?
