AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: SPACE In Folder Or Path Name
Feb 12, 2013
I'm try to write a list to produce a script file!I just want to insert a dwg file in current drawing.back to MS Windows, in case of having [space] in a folder's name, we should use "" marks:
CD "Program Files"; DEL "file 10.txt"; ....
I tried both with and without "" marks but I failed!I pasted part of my code below with result of each case:
(setq TBFile "H:z.autocadA1 A2 A3.dwg")
(write-line "-INSERT" des)
(write-line (strcat "*" TBFile) des); ; *H:z.autocadA1 A2 A3.dwg <<=should be this
(write-line "0,0" des);;insert point
(write-line "1" des);;xyz scale
(write-line "0" des);;rotation
[code]....

I've tried doing a block that automatically updates the X and Y coordinates from its moveable leader. I can get it to work in model space or paper space. But my problem is I want it to work in PS, but update with the MS coordinates through the viewport.
I can get it to update, by LISP, by picking a point and passing the points to the blocks attributes. At the moment I have a LISP when actioned it locks the viewports, activates the viewport, and asks you to select a point. Once selected it de-activates the viewport (going back into layout tab) then asks which block you want to update. Where you now select the block and it updates the coordinates. I.e. manually pick the point in MS, switch to PS and then manually pick the block. Then I have to manually modify the leader to the correct location.
I'm hoping that I can (In PS) move the end of the leader to snap to a position in MS and the coord updates to reflect the correct MS coordinates. I'm thinking that maybe this can't be done automatically and that I maybe can move the leader but I'm not sure how I can do it without running a LISP to update the block?
I'd be happy moving the leader then just running a single command and the leader coordinates updating without having to select the points and the block again.
I've attached the block showing the auto update of the attributes (fields).

I am currently using this code to get the folder name containing the current drawing.
FolderName = Dir(ThisDrawing.path, vbDirectory)
What would I use if I wanted to get the foldername one level up (third)?
ex. C:FIRSTSECONDTHIRDFOURTH

I'm working on a lisp that goes through a whole list of files and does different things to those files. I've been racking my brain for a way to select just a folder via a dialogue box, but haven't found a way. I'm sure it can be done with dcl, but I don't know where to start.
This would not be the standard "file" selection box, but would only list the folders and let me select one even if there are others "under" them. This is what I'd like it to look like.
I'm not sure if there is a standard AutoCAD box that I could call for this or not

I'm trying to get the file name of a file outside the search path. Obviously (findfile) is not an option. The file location changes with each project so adding a search path is also not an option. I can get the path to the file but i can't seem to figure out how to get the file name. I can also get the first set of characters, as they are constant from project to project, it's just the end of the file name that changes. The file is always a PDF.

I'm using a Lisp which searches a certain folder and then updates all blocks, which are nested in that folder.
My issue is, that I'd like to use more than one folder on different path, where the LISP can search for this files. Is there a way to use multiple search path?
The code I'm using now to search for the blocks is: (setq dir "I:\AutoCAD Blöcke\Template\Support")

I would like to put our company programming on a Dropbox folder. I have not fully tested everything out yet, like locations of lisp files and image name...
One thing I am struggling with is an absolute path in my lisp file:
(setq FL:FLAYTAB "C:\Users\dvanerem\Dropbox\Canova and Stone\Customizations\Autodesk AutoCAD 2010\Programming\OENV-RCP.TAB")(FL:LoadTable)
I am confused how this would work with other users? Or does AutoCAD automatically correct for this?

I was wanting to create a script to go through and clean up a bunch of drawings in a given folder. I've written a lisp routine (cleanx) that works fine when you run it on a single drawing, but I'm having some trouble integrating it into a script. As it is currently, I'm experiencing several issues -
1) It prompts the user for an 'object' after finding 0 objects. It seems to be caused by the line,
(command "-layer" "u" "*" "t" "*" "on" "*" "" "")
in 'cleanx' based on the text window, but I'm not sure why it does that given that if I run cleanx directly it doesn't prompt me.
2) It ends with saying 'Really want to discard all changes to drawing?' which confused me as I use Qsave before I close, and then confused me further when I realized that the text window suggests that this prompt comes up after the 'open' command, and that if I type <Y> (exit without saving) then it asks me to select a file. Why doesn't it save, close and then open the next file automatically?
;;; Main program, command: batchjob;;; By Abdul Huck(defun c:cleanb (/ dwgs file dwgName scrFile folderName) (setq folderName (browsefolder "Select folder to perform batch job: ") ) (setq dwgs (vl-directory-files folderName "*.dwg")) (setq scrFile (open (strcat folderName "\batchJob.scr") "w")) (write-line "SDI 1" scrFile) (foreach file dwgs(setq [code].......

Some of our 64-bit users lose their custom Support File Search Paths.
After reading about it, I saw that I could add them back in by putting
(setenv "ACAD" "S:\Fonts;S:\Acad2007\Hatch_Patterns;S:\Acad2007\Lisp;S:\Acad2007\Simpson\Menu;”)
at the end of acad2013.lsp.
1. However, I get malformed string on input error in AutoCAD.
2. My other question is do I need to list only the custom paths or all of the built-in paths as well?

Have issues with creating an AutoCAD deployment and "The path of the added item is too long" error message?
I understand that the paths are limited to 255 characters but I tried just a local path and I get the same error.
Under Additional Files in deployment options, I want to add 2 folders under <Installation Directory> and add 2 files under Support folder.
1st folder would be ARG folder for a custom profile xxx.arg file
2nd folder would be Template with a custom template xxx.dwt file
Under Support, I want to browse and add two files: custom accaddoc.lsp and enterprise acad.cuix file.
All of those files reside on a share drive but the paths are about 40 char so I'm way below the limit.
Every time I want to add a folder under <Installation Directory> I receive the error message:
The path of the added item is too long: "Create New Folder" Please limit this path to -28 characters (currently 17).
So I copied all thos files locally but the same error show up. Is this a bug? I can't customize my deployment if those files are not available.

I have set up a master set of dwg. files we use to create our construction documents. The files consist of a master file that xrefs base files. All of our files are named using the project # first. (i.e. 2011001c.dwg). I have set up the master set using x's to replace the numbers.
Here is how it works:
XXXXXXXc.dwg (master file) relative path xref's the following files.
XXXXXXXlw.dwg
XXXXXXXvlw.dwg
XXXXXXXeg
XXXXXXXfg
XXXXXXXtitleblock
note: all of these files are saved in the same folder.
I am trying to find a way to keep the xref paths working when I copy the files to a project folder and rename the files using the actual job # insead of the x's as place holders. As it is now, when I change the drawing name the reference is lost and I have to manually change all of the xref paths in the xref manager. Is there a command, program, or lisp routine than can change the file names and update the paths automatically.

Do we have this ability natively? Have I been missing something all this time? Normally I have to make a copy of the original entity, ... break, break, list erase or undo....

Our I.T department uses kixstart to run a batch script every morning, which is supposed to establish a network connection. The connection is 9/10 times available. 1/10 times it fails and means that workspaces and other user defined settings are inaccessible.
Bringing up the issue with I.T seams to eparch on there skills as a professional so nowadays I tend to bring it up once maybe twice but then settle for ding it my self
So what I found out is the following batch scrip/ snippet is used to establish a network
net use P: \AutoCAD_2012-08-22
I could compile a batch and then launch it using a lisp for example
(command “startapp”….
Or
(command “shell".However this would be hakky and also requires two files (the lisp and then also the bat file, rather keep it simple just the one).Is it possible to establish this connection using lisp?

I have code that will set and sae a current UCS to the front of an entity, of course, depending on the viewpoint. This is so, because we need all draft lines in front of 3D solids, such as dimensions, leaders for labels, text entities and so on (the reason for not putting these entities in paper space is another discussion ).
But I'll have on of two problems on numerous occasions:
1. The user forgets all together to run the command.
2. The user will pick the wrong entity that is in the foremost position in that view.
The code I have utilizes the following:
(setq ent (car (entsel)))
(vl-load-com)
(setq obj (vlax-ename->vla-object ent))
(vla-getboundingbox obj 'LowerCorner 'UpperCorner)
(setq LowerC (vlax-safearray->list LowerCorner))
(setq UpperC (vlax-safearray->list UpperCorner))
Then I'll analyze the X, Y and Z of both the lower and upper corners, and set my UCS to whatever is proper.
Is there a "LowerCorner" and an "UpperCorner" for all entities. I can't see "VSMIN" and VSMAX" working because the elevation of the returned coordinates is always "0,0"

Routine to build a legend in paper space
I am looking for a routine or app to pull existing MS legend symbols (inserted from the block library) from the drawing and automatically place them in a PS legend. Since I don't have a large screen and sometimes miss a symbol before running a test plot, I wish to automate the process.
I am looking for a way to populate a paper space legend with blocks inserted into the drawing for Land Desktop 2005, 2006 drawings.
I also have to replace non-conforming architectural blocks with my own, then build the legend from all drawings tabbed in the drawing file (possibly all xref drawings as well).
I liked your article on 'Selectively writing drawing blocks to any folder using VBA'. I need to brush up on my VBA 6.0 and learn VB.NET. Perhaps your code can be modified to do the task, and this would be useful to many other designers in a further article.

Any routine for changing color of AutoCAD background in model space. As for changing background color we have to follow four steps namely as follows:-
1. Execute OP
2. Go to display tab
3. Go to color tab
4. Change color
A tool that directly calls the model color shall be highly beneficial.

Is there a quick way to simultaneously delete all objects in a layer if these objects are found across several layout tabs and model space?
At the moment, I'm getting the objects using: (setq a (ssget "X" '((8 . "Revision"))))
This finds all objects in the drawing, but if I just use: (command "_.erase" a "")
to delete them, only the the objects in the current layout or space are getting deleted...

Is there a way to get model space to "display plot styles" through a lisp routine or a script?
i'm currently setting up a whole bunch of custom tool palettes for the company I work for and instead of the icons displaying in their actual colour (at the moment they're green, which doesn't show up very well on the light grey background), I'd rather they show in the plotstyle assigned to the individual dwg's.
call up the page setup manager (while in model space) and click modify, you can then check the radio button to "display plot styles" in the top-right corner. But when you have around 100 - 200 blocks to change, that process can be rather time consuming and cumbersome!

I would like to write some sort of AutoLISP program to evenly space objects across a given distance. I have attached a .pdf file showing what exactly I mean.
I would like the program to enable me to either enter or measure (via the selection of two points) the "z" distance, to enter or measure the "y" distance, and to enter the number of objects, "n". I would then like the program to evenly space "n" objects across the "z" distance.
A program like this is, I have to be honest and say, way beyond my current capabilities.
Perhaps some initial guidance to get me going?

We used a block which contains deisel expressions for our plot stamp. When we publish through the sheet set manager it shows a temp folder where the drawings are spooled to instead of the actual drawing saved path. We can fix this buy turning off background plotting when we publish, but I was wondering if there is a way to show the saved path instead of the spoolled path when publishing in the background.
Below is the expression found in our plot stamp block.

We have user folders on severall servers, now I want the user menu's to be stored on the network so their home folder depends on what server it's located on. I tried using the vl-file-directory-p command but it doesn't seem to work.
Even worse, as soon as the userfolder is found I want to let the script check for a file called user.cuix in the Acad folder and if it doesn't excists copy it from another location to that folder (if possible).
This is what I got so far:
(setq UserName (getvar "loginname"))
(setq RootZW "\\users\zw\")
(setq RootVL "\\users\vl\")
(setq Company "\\CADConf\ACAD13\")
[Code] ..........
Next to this we have 4 other options as well, but to keep it short I left it at the first 2.
