AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center File Size

Jul 8, 2013

A couple of years ago, there was a limit to the part file size that could be published to the content center. Using the new shrinkwrap capabilities and/or derived parts in Inventor we can produce rather large part files. Does the 2014 software have limits to the actual file size that can be published to the content center. 520K, 1M, 30M, 1G? We have some subassemblies that we would like to convert and publish to the content center but wanted to know how large we can make them.

Content Center is located on server with 3T+ of storage possible.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Bolt Size Descriptions Missing

May 31, 2012

how I can get the bolt type and sizes to show in the description of the item in a parts list when placed through Content Center! I would like the same with all fixings.

We have configured our own Content Center by copying standards and replacing the part number with our own reference number. This then shows the description as "Bolt" with no size etc.

Can Content Center be configured in a way to show sizes in description?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Part When Changing Size Doesn't Update Correct Length

Mar 15, 2013

A coworker brought this to my attention and I was also immediately able to reproduce this. We use content center C channels and other common beams a lot. After inserting one into an assembly if you right click and select change size and edit the length it typically doesn't update to the correct length.

Example:

Insert a 10" Ansi MC/C channel any size

right click and select change size

add +.0625 to the existing length and hit apply

measure it at 10.06252 in

repeat change size and type in 10.0625

measure it at 10.0625

repeat change size and type in 10 + .0625

and measure at 10.06252 in

It seems to mess up more when you do math but it also screws up entering a simple number

10.000325 usually ends up as 10.000315 in for me.

Editing the part directly from it's parameter dialog doesn't yield anything like this.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center File Versions

Feb 15, 2012

By default Content Center creates the sub-directories 2012, 2011, 2010 etc. to store the generated content center instance files. I have never changed this behavior. Why is it required to maintain these files in the existing separate directories? I don't intend to use a previous release of Inventor once upgraded.

I can see that there is a good possibility of generating the same content center instance in multiple directories ie: if you created a 1/2" nut in the 2011 directory and then there is a good chance of doing it again in the 2012 directory.

I would like to migrate all the files in those directories to my current release 2012 then place them in a common "generic" directory without separation into yearly subdirectories. Would this cause any serious issues?

I know I'll probably be resolving links for a while, but I can deal with that as long as Content Center still works after that. I would of course change the default location to my "generic" location.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center File Location?

Dec 22, 2011

When our tech was here to install Vault for us I had several pressing tasks going on and did not learn how to find and alter our content center files. I now have a little time over the Christmas break to work on this. Where do I look in the settings to see where the content center is located? I plan to copy the files to my machine as I will not have access to the server over the break and I will need to know where to reset the file search at. Is this done through the project folders? If so how do I accsee read/write? I do have admin rights and we are using 2012.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Batch File Creation?

Jun 21, 2013

[URL]

I have begun the creation of a new custom content center library because the old one was or became corrupted during our migration from from Inventor 2011 to 2013.  The old custom library was un-recoverable.  The creation of a custom content center library, adding components to the the custom library and working with the file tables adding columns for part description etc.. is rather easy.  Refreshing legacy content center files has been rather difficult.  In some cases I needed to delete the legacy files and them re-insert them manually.  This process is rather time consuming.  What I would like to do is to create all the files in the family table after I have made the changes to the family talble.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unique File Naming From Library Or Content Center?

Jan 20, 2012

I'm having some problems giving certain parts in my assembly a unique file name. Im reorganizing all of my projects in a

- content center
- designs
- libraries

way, where my projects are under designs and commonly used parts under libraries.

Now i have something like a pump. I can derrive this assembly into a solid and put it in the content center, or keep the assembly and put it in the libaries folder. since this is a part i use in multiple projects.

Now my problem is that this pump has a different name in every project, and a library part doesn't allow me to change this name. Say standard name is "centrifugal pump" while the name in project 1 would be P101, while in project 2 it has to be named P501 and so on in order to match with the flowcharts.

Is my only option here creating a solid out of these components and putting it all in my content center ( leaving my libraries folder totally empty ), adding it as a custom part afterwards ( so i can rename it ). I rather have it in my library folder, since this will keep my design folder organized without hundreds of duplicates of this pump, using different names. Besides i rather have it as an assembly so i can assign the connecting tubes of the pump to different sub assemblies of piping.

Different example, a butterfly valve excists out of 3 parts. the valve itself, and 2 connecting tubes. possible to dissemble. all 3 parts need to have the same file naming say XV900. 1 side of the valve needs to be assigned to pipe-01 while the other side of the valve needs to be assigned to pipe-02. Content center doesn't allow me to split files, but allows me to use unique file names. A library party allows me to split files ( if not read only ) but doesn't allow me to change names.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Creating Duplicate File Folders?

Sep 11, 2012

why content center creates duplicates of existing folders?. Some of the folders have 6 or 8 versions and there is also a duplicate EN-US folder within the EN-US folder with nested folders. So bottom line i have multiple locations and nested files within the content center. Needless to say there is a lot of time spent pointing inventor to the parts necessary to open an assembly.

We are working on a network and are all pointing to the same content center location.  We are all using the same project files. Sometimes it works as you would expect, other times not.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Characters

Oct 13, 2012

We have an extensive library of parts that we consistently utilize, but we do use Content Center for hardware and routed systems components.

All of our library parts have our company ERP's item number in the stock number iProperty, and the ERP's description in the Comments iProperty.

For CC items, we have added columns for these and mapped them to the appropriate iProperty.

Everything works great except for one thing.

Many of our ERP descriptions inlude inch marks, foot marks, and the & symbol.  For our normal library parts thhis is not an issue.  However, CC items utilize these characters differently.  The result is our descriptions come out different that what is entered.

See the example below...

How to include these characters in the CC descriptions?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Is Empty

Installed 2014 recently, and now my Content Center has nothing in it. The "Place from Content Center" window loads, and there are no folders.  My item count is 0.  I've attached a screen shot for reference. Clicking the refresh button does nothing.

We have no custum hardware/materials/etc.

If I try to update the content center library (step 2), the Configure Libraries is full of "Not Available"s. Again, I've attached a screen shot.  I'm nervous to continue migrating with out all that info.

There are two pc's with IV, and the content center is working fine on the other pc.  The CC is a local thing, and only my computer seems to be upset.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Publishing To Content Center

Jul 24, 2013

I just created an empty Fastenal Library, and it is set to Read/Write.  We order most of our fasteners from them, but not much else, so I used "Copy Category Structure To" Fastenal.  I created a plain washer to add to the library, but when I try to publish it, I can't get it to work.

When I "Publish Part," I select Fastenal and English, then am asked to select a category to publish to.  The Washers folder is greyed out, along with most other folders, but the Ball sub folder is not.  I can't select Plain, which is what I need, but I can select Ball.

Also, is there a way to delete sub folders?  I right click on Pins or Rivets, and the option to Delete Category is greyed out.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Customization

Feb 9, 2012

I have been working on creating custom content center families that will populate our company's part numbers and descriptions into the browser and drawing BOM.  I have been quite successful in this except with the material.  I've created custom materials for the fasteners that have the specified strengths and finishes per the fastener.  By doing this I've created a different problem.

How can I create a custom property that will insert a specified value for material into the BOM?  I've tried to change the link for Project.Material and then the part inserts as Inventor's default.  I don't think creating individual material styles for each fastener is a viable one since I'll end up with duplicate style names.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Materials

Mar 11, 2011

I'm trying to create a custom Content Center bolt that can be one of three different materials (6.8, 8.8, 10.9).  The materials are stored in our Styles Library, and the project specifies "Use Styles Library = Yes"; so the three materials are visible from the Content Center Editor.  The Material column in the Content Center Editor is defined to "Map To Inventor Property: Project.Material".  Everything looks fine.  But no matter what material I select, I get 6.8.

I've already got LOTS of parts published with custom materials and they all work fine, but the big difference is that these families are all the SAME material.  I'm having problems with getting a family to use DIFFERENT materials. We're using Inventor 2009.

The problem is that the file needs references to the content center parts like screws etc. and can't find them. I was looking through my whole computer for this content center files Inventor is asking me, but I can't find them.

If I open a new project and open the content center it works without problems. The problem is just that I can't tell Inventor where the parts are to which it needs to be referenced.
