View 2 RepliesI am having problems with my drawing template, I can make changes no problem, but when I use the template to start a new idw file the changes are not in place.
For example; view preferences, I want to work in third angle, I have this selected on the template but each time I start a new idw I have to change it from 1st angle.
e.g. 2; sheet size, I changed it from text to a drawing property, but it doesn't change when I edit the sheet size.
Setting up a tabulated ipart drawing template. Which is better...one drawing file with a table or individual drawings for each tabulation? Also does one method work better than the other when introducing vault?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have some code to replace the current title block with a title block from a template file. I just don't like how it adds a new title block definition named "copy of titleblock". I'd like to delete or replace the current title block definition so only the newly added one is listed.
Sub test() Dim odrawdoc As DrawingDocument Set odrawdoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument If (odrawdoc.DocumentType <> kDrawingDocumentObject) Then Exit Sub Dim oTemplate As DrawingDocument Dim oSourceTitleBlockDef As TitleBlockDefinition Dim oNewTitleBlockDef As TitleBlockDefinition Dim oSheet As Sheet Set oTemplate = ThisApplication.Documents.Open(ThisApplication.FileOptions.TemplatesPath & "template.idw", False) Set oSourceTitleBlockDef = oTemplate.ActiveSheet.TitleBlock.Definition Set oNewTitleBlockDef = oSourceTitleBlockDef.CopyTo(odrawdoc) ' Iterate through the sheets. For Each oSheet In odrawdoc.Sheets oSheet.Activate oSheet.TitleBlock.Delete Call oSheet.AddTitleBlock(oNewTitleBlockDef) Next oTemplate.CloseEnd Sub
I'm just being picky at this point, but I don't want a buildup of title block definitions. We reuse drawings all the time which is why a simple method of updating a title block would be nice. I can just imagine in some years time after a title block update or two there are 20 "copy of copy of copy of .................. titleblock" listed in a drawing file.
I am running C3D 2013.
Is it a good practice to have several WMS connections already connected to the provider in our standard "dwt" template file? Will this affect the speed or performance of a drawing?
Isn't there a way of taking an existing hatch patter off a drawing file and load it into your hatch library?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can you use a template file from your personal files to use it in an already existing .dwg file.
I knwo how to do it if I start the drawing from scratch and I select that template, but I want to put this existing drawing into my personal template file from my documents.
I'm linking an excel file to an .ipt file with iLogic code determining if the Material type is a certian value it will find the correct material thickness. These file work great when working on them thru Vault but when I "Save As Template" and create this file where our other template files are located (not Vault) this fuction does not work. I have realized that I had to place the a copy of the excel file in the same file folder as the template ipt, but even this does not fix the issue.
I recieve this error:
Error in rule: Material, in document: Part6
'MWW Materials (Inventor).xlsx' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.
If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.
It seems completly countintutive that just saving the file as a template file would cause this not to work when all files that are required are located in the same file folder. Maybe I need a reference to the excel document within the iLogic code.
When I first installed Adobe Photoshop CS6 I was unable to run Photoshop or Bridge CS6. Photoshop would give me an error about "could not open a scratch file because the file is locked. If I ran either of these programs as an administrator they would run without issue, this led me to believe that there was a permission issue somewhere. After some digging I found out the both Bridge and Photoshop try to create a temp file (similiar to Photoshop Temp2777223910092) on the c: drive of the computer. In my case the user that I was logged in with did not have access to write to the root of the C: drive. Note that you run the program as the administrator and change the scratch disk location as that changes the preference for the administrator user and not the user that you are currently logged in as.
I first had to give the user that I was logged on with write permissions to the root of the C: drive. Next try and run Photoshop, you will get an error another error about the scratch disk and about and invalid or missing setting file. To correct this you need to have run Photoshop as an administrator, next you can go to Users AdminAppDataRoamingAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS6Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings and copy Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs and/or Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs to Users<your logged in username>AppDataRoamingAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS6.Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings.
At the end of the day yesterday our server crashed while I was working on a drawing and today when I tried to open the drawing I got the message 'Drawing File is Not Valid'. Is there a way to recover the drawing? I tried the recover command but I got the same message. i tried converting the BAK file and CAD did not respond.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are working on a civil 3d project that was created by first bringing the data into Caice then exporting to microstation and then creating a .dwg. This file has been extremely slow and crashes all the time. Is there any way to fix the file? If we proecess our survey data in caice, what is the best way to bring the data over to civil 3d?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of my users has a strange problem. While editing a drawing (opened from the network), the drawing switches to read-only when she tries to save it, and the .dwg file on the network folder from which she opened the file disappears. The lock files are still there, but the .dwg is gone. She can do a Save As, so she hasn't lost any work (yet!), but the problem has me perplexed.
This problem started when we converted her to Civil 3D 2011. At the same time we also upgraded her to Windows 7 64-bit.
I have about 20 other users on this same platform, she's the only one who's had this problem. I've done a repair install but that didn't fix it. I haven't yet done a full uninstall & reinstall, maybe that's what I should do next.
I have a network recovery bin application running on the server, but it has no record of the file being deleted.
I'm having problems importing points into Civil 3D 2012.I'm trying to import an ASCII file into the drawing.Files formats are P,N,E,Z,D in ASCII file and the same format is selected when I try importing.
The ASCII file has well over a 1000 points but when I import the points only the first twenty or so points import to the drawing. This seems not to be limited to this drawing.I tried to import points to a different drawing and the same thing happened.
Up to this point I have not had trouble importing points into other various drawings. Is there a button or setting that may have changed that is preventing full importation of the points?
I imported survey data from a file into the drawing and created a surface from the points and figures. No problem. Engineer wanted to change the datum from assumed to known. At this point all figures have been copied to a new layer flattened and changed to 2D polylines in order to hatch. Then the figures reimported. I raised all the points with the edit datum and raised the figures with edit survey figures. Surface was adjusted and tweaked. Everything was fine. I open the drawing and all the figures are back at assumed datum and the points are on the right datum. Now when I tweak the surface it uses the bogus elevations from the figures. How can I get my figures to save the adjusted elevations?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been provided survey data in the form of an XML file that I am using to build a surface. Everything is fine, except for the drawing with the surface is still referencing the XML file. What is the best method to remove this reference and have the surface fully contained in one file? View 2 Replies View RelatedI received a drawing from another consultant that uses C3D 2013. When I open the drawing in C3D 2012 I get the message that it was created in a newer version of C3D so I assume he did a save as to 2010.
When I get drawings like this I copy what I need to the clipboard and paste into a new drawing (acad.dwt). This usually works fine. But in this case the drawing is almost 4 MB and contains just one arc. I purged everything I can from the drawing and it is still 3 MB.
I looked for but could not find any of the usual suspects: drawing scales, regapps, empty text objects and wipeouts. When I list "all" there is one arc in model space and 4 view ports in paper space. I did notice that there are hundreds of linetypes and text styles that cannot be purged.
I tried export to AutoCAD DWG 2010, 2007, 2004 and 2000 but that didn't work. Export to AutoCAD DWG R14 and DXF R12 both caused C3D to become unresponsive. Saveas to DWG R14 and DXF R12 caused C3D to become unresponsive.
I recently switched from Civil 3D 2012 to 2013 student version because when I initially installed the program I probably messed up some of the settings that I shouldn't have for my entire application. After reinstalling it, I noticed that the program seems to run just fine but the settings for the original file I'm trying to work with remain, such as label settings, linescales, etc.
I want my drawing to match the settings of new drawings when it comes to labels, scales, and anything else I might have changed. Is there a way to apply these settings to my original file? If not, is there a way to at least make sure the label styles can be reset? I don't want any changes to the settings I made to be present in my file.
We are using Autocad Civil 3D 2010 and are also using the 2010 Vault.
We are having problems with one project in Civil 3D (project in Vault). We are trying to create a surface reference and are getting the error: "Drawing is already attached to project X."
Note: This drawing is not vaulted, only the cross section surface that has the final grade surface in it is vaulted.
When we test the same process with a new document we are able to reference the surface fine and the command shows: _AeccCreateSurfaceReference which works properly.
I can't remember how to import a ctb file into my plot settings for a drawing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a rather large subdivision (not uncommon, certainly used to a longer-than-normal load time) but have found one of our XREF files to be bringing drawing loads to a screeching halt. We have XLOADCTL set to 2, which explains the creation of the temporary file.
I have previously gone into the file and reset the scale list, which speed things up by about 50%, but today it appears to be doing the same thing.
Is there anything I can do to prevent this from becoming a more serious problem? Can I add some sort of SCALELISTEDIT reset command to the acaddoc.lsp file?

I import a csv file into my drawing and all the points and figures get drawn correct and on the correct layers.
But I end up getting some extra things also:
1. a little white circle comes in from the marker styles. it comes in on layer V-SURV-NTWK
2. i also get an extra white line that comes in on layer 0.
I have stopped these things from happening now by hitting the light bulb for the "basic" Marker Style and the "basic" Feature Line Styles. But i would really like to know what the Marker Style and Feature Line Styles are and what they are there for.
I set my template dwg UCS to world. The viewcube will straighten up, i.e. North points up on the screen. I save the template, start a new drawing using the template and my viewcube rotates every time. I have to reset the UCS to world. What would cause this?

I created a template, AFTER the drawing was created, and would like the drawing to HAVE that template.
I have a 2011 template drawing that I've added all the information to that I know about how to survey in C3D. I've used it for a few years now and it works great for us. We now have to update it for used in 2014. IT has told me that I need to create a new 2014 drawing and bring the 2011 styles, groups, etc. into it that way. I used the management import tool to do this in 2014. Seems like all the styles, etc. came over just fine. Any way to test whether or not the template drawing has any garbage in it, such as purging and auditing, so all the bad stuff is gone? C3D - 2014
View 9 Replies View RelatedI created a drawing where I created a grading object (pad) under a site, a couple of alignements, etc.
After deleting everything to maintain layer states and settings, I saved the drawing as a starting template for day to day drawing (left it as a dwg, not dwt)
When I start a new drawing from a saveas of the template, it says that there is already a grading group named 'pad' but there isn't anything shown in the prospector. Purge hasn't worked. Any ghost entities left in a drawing.
I've also noticed that if you screw up a grading and try to delete the entire site and start over...you get weird results too. It's like it remembers old stuff you did (ghost entities) and won't let you start with a clean slate.?

As an engineering company we have started to convert hundreds of our drawings from AutoCAD to PDF using a batch utility.
However every file that is converted into a PDF file is opened by a PDF Viewer. We want to prevent this.
I opened my *.pc3 file and removed the check from the appropriate box. See below
I press OK, then save the file and close. However when I reopen the file, I see the box for Openining in PDF Viewer has been rechecked. No matter what I do, I cannot permanently remove the check from this box.
