Photoshop :: Clone Stamp Works One Minute, Then Doesn't The Next
Jul 31, 2006
I am cloning a photo... no problem... I changed the resolution, then the clone stamp doens't do anything. I changed the resolution back, still doesn't work.
I click on the color I want it to clone using the option key (I have a mac), then when I put it on the area that I want to change, nothing happens.
Could not use the clone stamp tool because the area to clone has not been defined (option-click to define a source point). this is what shows up in the command box when ever I click to start to pick the spot i want to use as the clone. makes my cloning tool useless. I have reset the tools restrted my computer.
I installed the new version of PS right now but when I start with CLONE STAMP saw something unusual! I disabled the "Show Overlay" feature, when I press ALT and make a Copy from one place and when I want to paste it in another place sometimes it confused and past unusual, specialy sometimes is paste out of brush area, The settings of the tool is the same as PS CS6 and when I switch to CS6 I have no problem same as before.
The Clone Stamp no longer works right. It's slow and sampling results are all over the place. It will sample from areas I never even ALT clicked on. And it can't keep up with rapid sampling and stamping. As is, Photoshop CC is totally unusable for photo retouching work.
I switched back to CS6, which still works fine, so the problem is NOT on my end. Running Windows 7 64bit. Photoshop CC 64bit.
Is there a mode that allows the clone stamp to, in a sense clone itself? So if the target goes over an area that you just brushed with the clone stamp it will actually begin to clone from that, instead of the document state prior to cloning?
Each time i try to use my actions is says"could not use the clone stamp because the area to clone has not been defined (option-click to define a source point)" or "unable to do.
how to turn off the mirroring aspect of the clone stamp in CS4 & return it to the way it worked in CS3 without magnifying & showing unfamiliar content?
I'm working on photoshop 7, and I scanned a pic in grayscale. I try to clean up some scratches with the clone stamp, but it doesn't work. Then I try to use some brushes to draw or try the eraser with many diferent sizes and it doesn't work either. I tried later with photoshop cs, but the same happens...
I am doing some photo retouching and have the original photo on the background layer. Now I have never been able to get my clone stamp to work when I add a "new layer" and try working on that layer. It will work on the original background image, where there are definitely pixels. But the new layer sitting on top of the background layer is transparent, and my clone stamp won't do anything
But I want to be able to retouch on the new layer without affecting the original background layer. So I'm watching this Quicktime movie by J. Kost on Advanced Photoshop Portrait Retouching (I bought the entire set from her at Fotofusion) and I am watching her do this!!! But I can't! She is retouching a portrait with the clone stamp....the transparent layer 1 is active above the background layer (ie it's highlighted) and the paintbrush well is indicating that the transparent layer 1 is what is being worked on.
I checked my opacity for this layer...it's 100%. I am working in 8bit RGB mode. PS 6.01. Blending mode is normal....
Do any photoshop gurus have any idea about what I am doing wrong? As a beginner (I have only seriously been studying photoshop for about 2 years...and I know it takes a long time), this problem has been confusing me...and not just with the clone stamp but also with the other brushes, and thus knowing when I can work on a seemingly transparent layer versus one with pixels.
I am having a problem with PS CS4 when I go to use the clone stamp tool I get an error message stating "could not use clone stamp because of a clone stamp error" I searched around but only found topics relating to cs3. I am using a Gateway gt series with Vista home premium Nvidia GEforce 8500 video card and 4 gb ram.
step 3 i have to use the clone stamp tool. But when i press ALT, my cursor changes to a double arrow! A white arrow and a black arrow, and the black arrow overlaps the white arrow for 80%. I guess thats not right, i should get a circle with a + in the middle of the circle right?
When i press alt and click mouse button, nothing happends. When i do that, and click somewhere at the image, i get the error that no area has been defined.
i am having issues with my clone stamp. it just does NOT work! i alt-click to assign the area and then click where i want it to cover, and NOTHING happens. I use CS at work and v6.0 at home. v6 works fine and, at work, CS doesnt work.
When trying to use the clone stamp, I get a message that syas the area to be cloned has not been defined-click to define a source point. Everything I have tried does not work. What do I have to do to use the clone stamp????
I try using the clone stamp but selection fails with this error message:Could not use the clone stamp because the area to clone has not been defined (Alt-click to define source point).
When I press Alt, I see the characteristic selection bullseye. But, afterwards, a right-click of the mouse reveals an open circle and the error message.I note that the key works for menu selections (e.g., Alt-File) and other actions.I have closed PS and re-opened. Reset the clone stamp tool, closed and reopened, etc., to no avail.
having problems with photoshop 5.5... new issue for me, as there weren't any issues yesterday. both the 'healing brush tool' and the 'clone stamp tool' are giving problems. when i press the alt key to collect an area to sample, on my screen it looks as tho the hand tool engages, and there is a second (copy looking) image moving around my screen over the original. i've already tried the 'tool reset all' function and rebooted... still haveing the same issue.
I am using PS 5.1. The cloning stamp tool has never worked.
If I alt/opt and click to attempt to select my source for cloning it does nothing. There are no presets on the cloning stamps and all settings are at zero.
I am running a MAC OS X recently updated system. I use a MS compatible wireless key board. All other PS short cuts works with this key board and always have I just have to use the PC short cuts. The only item changed in preferences for CS 5.1 is the way my mouse is display with crosshairs.
My sister wants to do a stop motion and she would like to remove a stone on every picture.
I tried to make a script, but when I apply it it doesn't change anything, so I wanted to know if it is possible to use the clone stamp with scripts, and if yes, how ?
I am trying to use the clone stamp tool, however each time I alt click on a PC runing system 7- 64 bit and try to clone an area, I get a window stating that I have not defined an area. Alt clicking again does not solve the problem. I work in a computer lab and this option works fine on our Macs using option click in PS CS6.
Is there any alternative to Clone Stamp tool's Alt-click? I am currently teaching an introductory photoshop course for disabled persons and one of my students has a condition that prohibits him from using the mouse and the keyboard at the same time. Is there perhaps some way to customize this command?
When I try to clone in versions beyond PS3 the clone stamp is not transparent. I can't see what's underneath, it got fuzzy pixels. How can I set this to behave the way it used to.
So I am running CS 6 and my clone stamp tool has been having issues for the past couple weeks. I go to alt+click a location to get my source, and then as i move somewhere else to starting cloning, it instead uses the exact area i am trying to cover up. The little icon that appears to show you where you are cloning from, is always inside my cursor, no matter where i grab the source from.
Only fix I have found is closing up and restarting PS again, and even then, it only works for one or two clicks then goes back to the issue.
Photoshop cc. I am having trouble with the clone stamp tool, it will often change back to the tool I was using before it when I try to change the size of the brush. It will sometimes happen when I go to use the hand tool (space bar short cut) it will go into the hand tool navigator mode (space+H) and then jump back to the previously used tool when I let go?
I use PShop CS5 + Bridge on a Mac “All in one”, all options works fine. Some time ago I changed some option (don’t remember which) to try new way of using the clone stamp. That is ok, but after that the “preview” of the clone stamp does not appear, as I was moved the the previous version of PS.
Some details:
I activate the clone stampset dimension, etc.I see the pointer, okMove the pointer to the source and clickThen simply move the pointer to the target areaBefore the problem without pressing any key I saw the “preview” of the effect. Now, I see the correct effect but only AFTER having clicked the mouse Reading previous thread, I reset the tool options, then reset all tools option, then checked the dimension of the pointer (in the general option section).Nothing changed.
I read that reinstall PShop is useless, since reinstall does not remove corrupted files if any (but which file?).Since every other feature is working properly, it looks like a strange setting I set without being aware of that …
I wanted to remove a tumb that caught the corner of the lense in a shot with the clone tool, so I choose my clone tool, select a copy of the background layer, and press alt to select my source. It doesn't work! I don't get my little plus thing. I've also noticed that I can't select part of the photo with the lasso tool either. I AM selecting the proper layer on the side! I don't get it, why isn't this working?
I've tried resetting the tool, I've tried several different files, it just refuses to let me select a source. My alt key is working, ctrl-alt-del says so.
