View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to transfer a catalog from a machine running PSE 5 (XP) to a new machine running PSE 11 (Win7 64 bit).
Is this posible and does the transfer/backup include the actual photos or just the relevant details? as I already have the photos copied to the new machine.
My old computer uses Win 7. My new laptop uses Win 8.1.
I backed up catalog to external drive to external directory PSE12-2014 using PSE12 backup process which took forever.
Went to laptop and attempted to restore from external drive, but PSE12 could not find the backup file. Checked manually and files have been copied to external drive and directory PSE12-2014.
I am using Google Drive to store my photos so they are automatically backed up and sync'd across multiple computers, as well as my phone.
I am buying a new primary computer and will need to transfer the catalog to the new computer. However, as I will be installing Google Drive on that computer as well, the photos will all sync down automatically. There is no need to have PE10 copy my flies from the old computer as part of the transfer process, as described here: [URL] ....
The way I see it, there are two scenarios:
I HAVE to use PE10 to make a back up of all the files in the catalog onto an external drive. I import the library on the new computer and either A) Google Drive recognizes that the files are all the same and doesn't waste time syncing the files or B) Google Drive replaces the 110 GB of files currently on the servers with the same files, then pushes those files down to all the devices that are synced.
or...
I can use Google Drive to push the photos onto my new computer, then the paths, tags, albums and other catalog information can be imported without PE10 worrying about the photo files themselves.
I have an old PC that I am getting rid of. It runs WinXP with Elements 8, and the Elements photo Catalog resides on an external HD. I want to move this catalog to a new PC running Win7 with Elements 10, and all photos will be stored on C:.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 on my new Windows 7 computer. How do I transfer the versin 5.02 catalog from my old Vista computer to my new computer?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have just bought a new computer with windows 8 and installed elements version 12; my old laptop had elements version 8 on it and I did a full backup of the catalog to an external hard drive. I have gone through the restore catalog process but cant see any photos either in the organiser or in my pictures. I did the convert step but it said it conversion failed and suggested repairing the backup with previous version which is not possible as the computer was a work machine which has now been wiped and rebuilt and I dont have version 8 anymore!! when it did the convert step it only seemed to find breeze files.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using photoshop elements for year. I'm currently using version 11 on Windows 7. I'm considering switching to a Mac and getting version 12 there. But before I do that, I want to make sure that there is a way to convert or transfer the catalog and the pictures and videos from Windows to Mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am upgrading from Photoshop Elements 9 to version 12 and loading it onto a new computer running Windows 8.2. To move the Organizer Catalog I have tried several time to create a backup on an external hard drive from version 9 so i can restore it on the new computer with the upgraded software. Each time i run the backup the process stops and displays an error message "Error encountered while writing files". This occurs when the process is approximately 75% complete. There are 12,326 items in the catalog, the estimated "media size" needed it 142,891.30 MB, i have 339 GB of free space on the external hard drive.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't want to have the original files on both laptop and desktop.
I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)
As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR, then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!
I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.
I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
My catalog 3 did not transfer to catalog 4. I tried to manually transfer files. Now I have as many as eight copies of some pictures, none of others.
