Photoshop :: Action Script For Specialized Border
Feb 8, 2007
I want to create a PARTIAL frame to process for images of various sizes. Specifically, I have several thousand images of various sizes, and I need to create a 1-pixel width frame around the image, with the EXCEPTION of the bottom border, as well as 25 pixels from the bottom of the image.
Currently, I'm using a recorded action that selects the image, the inserts a 1-pixel black frame around the INSIDE part of the image (Stroke method). That part is easy. But what I need to have done is to omit the bottom border, as well as 25 pixels from the bottom on each side border.
Here are two images with full frames, using the Inside Stroke 1 pixel method. Note that both images are different sizes.
What I need NOW is to further modify the image to remove parts of the border as below:
Note that the image can be varying heights and widths, of which no height or width of the image is under 75 pixels. Nevertheless, i need a consistent result as above.
Can anyone provide a basic direction for me to go in? I am used to VB Script, but can also do Java as that seems to be the preferred method (I assume that this will require a script).
EDIT: Just for clarification, the pixels left after the border part is removed can either be transparent or the color white (as shown in the sample). The finished product will always go on a white background, so white pixels are ok.

I'm trying to script a simple action. I would like to make a frame matte around an image, fill it with black, then make a white stroke around the image but have it a few pixels away from the image itself... like this:
Attachment 18286
What I normally do is just create a shape on a layer underneath the image that is the exact size of the image... then transform that shape adding a specified amount of pixels (percent doesn't work, it comes out uneven) to each value. Now, this would be fine if all my images were the same size... but I need to be able to add a set number of pixels... say 10... to an arbitrary set of dimensions (changes each time I crop).

i would love to be able to create a single photoshop action for adding a border, plus a signature in the bottom right corner, that works for both portrait and landscape images.
need i say more?
i already have an action that adds a signature in the centre of the border at the bottom of the image e.g. the image below. what i want though is for that signature to be on the RHS and for the same action to work for portrait images as well.
supplementary info: reason for this is that I want to be able to export 300 wedding images (mix of landscape and portrait images) from lightroom in my pre-selected order (meaning the files are labelled from 001 to 300, ordered according to how the wedding day unfolded) and then use PS to add the border and the signature, in the same place, and for it to work for both orientations.
i need this to work for full sized exported jpeg images, i.e. i want the files that i give on CD to my clients to include my signature in this manner. so I don't want to copy the initial layer and then reduce the second layer size to leave a border around the second layer.
i hope i've been clear I think that this sort of presentation makes such a difference to final printed image, and I DONT want to have to go to all 300 images picking out the landscape from portrait ones (although this may be what I have to do and wouldn't really take that long but surely there's a better way!!!!).

I have a site plan with underground water lines on it. We had a surveyor go out and GPS where all the water valves are. I brought in all the survey points and put a block of a valve in all the areas that were surveyed. I created the block with two attributes.
1) Valve ID # (ex: 001)
2) Valve Size (ex: 8")
I would like to know if I can do the following:
1 - Highlight all the blocks and have AutoCAD create a table with the valve ID# and Size that I can export/copy/paste into excel.
2 - If I have accidentally number an abandoned valve can I remove that valve and then make all the blocks update themselves automatically. Basically they renumber themselves.
I have the AutoCAD 2013 Master Suite of Software's so I have every AutoDesk product there is. However I use AutoCAD 2010 and not 2013 (for production purposes)
have a question on if its possible to have blocks automatically renumbering themselves using block attributes.
For example I have 12 blocks numbered 1 through 12, I delete number 4 and I want the remaining 5 through 12 to shift down in value. Would it be possible to use block attributes to do this?

I have a drawing that has a white background.
I would like to add more to the white background to make it bigger without having to stretch it and distort the image.
I want to place a circle shaped outline border around the original image with a set border thickness and color and be able to crop/remove the portion of the image beyond the outline, changing it from a square/rectangle image to a circular image.
If I am not able to change the drawing to have a round outer border from square, how can I make the outer parts past the newly created circular outline transparent?

i am trying to build an action where the end product is a channel listing that has all the channel (R-G-B-L-C-Y-M-K (forget LAB a-b)). this will allow me to look at all the channels for contrast and subsequent extraction. i'm actually able to do this as i RECORD the action. but when i RUN the action, nothing happens.
in recording the action, i create a DUPLICATE IMAGE, then convert the new image to LAB. i then drag the "L" channel to the original image. it goes into the original image as an alpha channel which i rename to "Lightness." i then convert the duplicate image to CMYK and then one-by-one DRAG the individual channels to the original image. at the end of this process, i have all eight channels visible in the channels palette. this is what i want.
but then, when i RUN the action on a new image, the action fails to RECORD the "drag step and drop" step. the "L," "C," etc. channels are not dragged during the running of the action.
why does the "drag" step not record in the action

needs to overlay a grid over a photo and then save it as another file. In CS5.5 or earlier, no problem, but in CS6 it is not working for either of us.
The batch action (run from either Photoshop or Bridge) stops and prompts at the Save command every time no matter what format we save it in (psd, png, jpg, save for web, etc.).
I have been through the Web and the Adobe Forums and cannot find a work around for this. He cannot just hit enter everytime the popup window comes up because he has over 2700 photos to put this grid on.

I want to make a border for something. The border is basically a christmas light border around some text. What I did was I took a picture of one lightbulb and edited it so that I just got the lightbulb (no background or anything...). What I want to do is basically create a border from that single light bulb by alternating the colors of the bulb (like how you can with a brush). Can I create a new brush out of that light bulb? I coulda sworn I've done it before, and there was a lesson on brushes in the book... But I can't figure out how. Or maybe theres a way to get around it by doing a some sort of border?

designing a site that is to be 760 width. It will have a 1px border around it which will be made by html for the table. My questions is do you have the canvas be 758 width and design in that or do you design with a 760 width and draw the tables in the design and just not include it in the slices?

When I try to add a border to a picture, everything goes fine until I try to fill it. Fill command fills it with a solid colour that becomes more transparent as it nears the center of the picture. Same thing happens with paint bucket tool and brush tool. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Just seeing CS6 for the first time and trying to warm up to it. There were several annoyances I have been able to revert back to normal, but this one thing I can't seem to make go away.
The marquee crosshair used to be displayed with 1 pixel lines, now it has a 1px border around the entire crosshair when it is over a dark color. Is there a way to get rid of that border? It just feels a little cumbersome, and sort of annoys me. I would rather it not be there.

I use photoshop a lot and have a recurring issue... I often have to edit photos and images which invole me being zoomed in to 300-400%. When zoomed in this far I cannot work out how to view the edges of the document (if Im trying to draw a path or something around an object and the path needs to go out side the bordering edge then come back in) is there a way to do this? I can do it by zooming out, dragging the border box to be larger than the image , but can't seem to do it whilst zoomed in. which is a right pain in the rs.

I resize and image, Photoshop "brightens" the borders, Why? I would like to just shrink an image, but it adds a one pixel border to the image that is lighter in color than all the pixels next to it making it blatantly obvious that its there. What could that conceivably be useful for, and how do I resize an image without it doing this?

I design web pages on occasion and it almost always comes up that I need some border art for effects. What I mean by that is not necessarily a full square frame, but more like decorative separators to go between paragraphs, or to set off a footer. Know what I mean?
I'm not creative enough to design the little things myself, but I also have not been able to find any sources for them, short of just stealing one off another page, which I don't want to do.
Sorry I don't have an example right now, if I come across one, I'll post it back here.
I hope I explained it enough. Suppose you went to a really elegant web site, you might find them using a fancy little curly brace thing between paragraphs or something. Know what I mean? I'm trying to find a source for such little candy graphics.
