Lightroom :: Transfer PSE 10 Catalogue To LR3?
Feb 23, 2012I will giving a presentation on editing options to our photographic society in a couple of weeks. One of members raised this question to me.
He is currently using PSE 10 to manage around 11,000 photos. He is getting into problems with the data base crashing and is looking at moving to Lightroom. He has been told that there is no way to make the transfer and will need to wait for LR 4 for a fix.
Lightroom :: Transfer Photos From Catalogue - Keep Them On HD?
Aug 3, 2013My SSD C: drive is too full so I am wondering what I can transfer to my HD. About 1000 of my 7000 photos are rated 1 star. I might never want to see them again. Should I transfer them out of the LR 5 catalog and just keep them on my HD and its backup HD? It would be nice if I could still call up a tiny image of them using keywords.

Feb 12, 2013I have just got a new computer and re-installed Lightroom on it. I now need to transfer my catalogue and files over.
I already know I need to copy and move them over but I have a question that probably seems very simple/obvious to most.
When I copy my catalogue file, WHERE am i supossed to copy it to on the new computer? In Pictures, Lightroom, there already exists a catalogue but obvioulsy this is not the one I want there. If I move my old catalogue to the same place (along with the other files) there will be 2 catalogues in there. How do I make sure Lightroom reads from the old catalogue I am copying over.
Lightroom :: Catalogue Merging - 1 Drive To 2 - Old To New Computer?
Nov 8, 2011I have been using Lightroom since the beginning on an older PC running Windows XP (currently ver 3.5). The way I began using LR was to only import those images which I wanted to work with. Basically these were all in the same parent directory (/images) and reasonably well organized. Having just set up a new Windows 7 PC with plenty of memory and speed, I would like to import all of my digital photos (100K+) to LR. I would also like to have my old catalog, containing metadata on ~2,600 images that I have worked with.
I would like to have the catalog on my boot drive; all images are on another, larger drive. So far, I have not been able to make this work. Most attempts result in the catalog being on the boot drive and unable to find the images. No parent folder shows up in the C: folder (cataloged), so I can't point the whole batch of cataloged images to the right drive. It seems the only alternative I have is doing this folder by folder.
Lightroom :: 4 - Importing Old Catalogue Into NEW Computer But Edits Are Not Shown
Oct 31, 2013I recently upgraded to a new Macbook Pro and have been trying to transfer over my old LR4 files to the new computer. I reinstalled LR4 on the new Mac and imported my old photo Catalouge from my External Drive. But when the folders, and pictures appear in the new LR none of my edits/presets/or information is shown. They are just the RAW files.
This cataloug was the same cataloug that I was using on my old computer. On that computer all edits and information came up correctly.

Jan 27, 2013I bought a new computer and am trying to transfer my files from the old computer to the new one. I thought I had it done right, brought the photos into the new computer, and then started working away. I have now discovered, none of my .jpg photos brought over the changes made. For instance, if I go into the Develop mode, all controls are set to "0". I revisited the old computer, and they are not all set to "0" there. What have I done and how do I correct this? I'll never change computers again with Lightroom.

Jan 10, 2014On December 19th, I just went to Mac from Windows. Bought a new computer (OS X) and transfered files from an external hard drive. I did not do the stardard catalog transfer and had many pictures I wanted to delete, so I transferred the old pictures through the "Another Catalog" feature import. So far so good. All worked very well for 2 years worth of pictures... while I was transferring CR2 files. Did not lose any images until I hit the following snag.
I was still on the old Windows pc on December 11th when I decided to start using DNG files and started using "Copy as DNG" option for import. On December 19th I received the new computer and started the transfer process.
The DNG files (Copy as DNG) which I started using on Dec 11th did not transfer, not one image. I lost all the information for these files. The actual DNG file is fine, but all the catalog information with all the adjustments do not transfer as the CR2 files did. At first I just got an error message when I transferred the images... saying error occured. I did not know why the transfer was not happening, and on further investigation I realized that the correct transfer stopped on Dec 11th. That is when I realized it must have been because of the DNG "new" file format. I decided to just transfer one image at a time to see exactly what would happen and Lightroom5 said "the original file is not available". I then realized that when I transferred the images from Dec 11 thru Dec 19th I COPIED them from the external drive as "Copy as DNG"... which means that I was trying to transfer and copy as DNG a file that was already copied as DNG. I made this error because I had just started using that feature and did not remember to switch to just "copy" for the transfer for those dates. Could this error have caused the non-transfer of the files for those dates?
Bottom line is that I have lost all the work for that one week which included a number of images.
When I open the old catalog I see the image information but a blank space for the missing images... right next to each image it is the DNG raw file..side by side. I cannot get the old catalog to recognize the individual catalog information for each image I worked on.
My question is... can anything be done to recover that information. Missing photographs is not the problem. It appears either my error of double copy of DNG format is the issue OR I had set the preferences incorrectly somewhere. I am aware that I could have embedded the RAW file information into the DNG file, but this was not checked off in the preference menu. Could there be any comparability issues between OS X and Windows? I do not think this is the problem but just putting it out there. My greatest fear is thinking I am using DNG incorrectly and will lose everything again in the future.
BTW, the original CR2 files are not avalable to me any more... computer hard drive was erased as it appeared all the information had backed up properly. And the backup files on the external hard drives are DNG format. So no CR2 files are available at all.

Mar 16, 2013I have been using Photoshop elements for many many years and am now looking to use Lightroom as an Interface.
At the moment, I have a Folder structure on my computer. At the Top I have Photos. Under Photos I have 43 additional Folders such as ( Cindi/Ivan Pictures, Cory & Jess Pictures, Barry & Janie Pictures, etc..) Now for each of these folders, such as Cory & Jess Pictures, I have a set of folders basically broken down by month/year. Now in a Given Month/Year Folder, I have a set of folders with each one containing the pictures of a given event that occurred ( birthday, trip, etc…). Guess my initial question is how do I get these pictures into a Lightroom Catalog and do I continue to use the same Structure.
Another example - Under the Barry/Janie Pictures Folder, one of the many Folders in this Folder is called Trips. Inside the Trips folder, I have folders for every major trip that Janie & I have taken since 2004 (21 different folders) (For example there is an Isreal Folder). The Israel Folder is made up of a set of folders, for each individual event or place that we visited during our Trip - i.e. 59 different folders. How would this Trips Folder be brought into Lightroom?

Dec 23, 2013Got the <Unexpected error opening catalogue> dialog when starting Lightroom 5.2. Will not allow me to save a new catalogue. Deleted old catalogue thinking that might prompt Lightroom to create a new catalogue or allow me to create and save a new one.Create Folder with New Catalogue allows me to enter a new catalogue name but then Select Catalogue dialog box is empty. Program wont open!
