View 9 RepliesBeen using Illstrator for over 7 years now, and never really wanted to ask this question, but I have to now. If I draw a sqaure using the rectangle tool, it shows a cross in the centre, and if I draw one using the pen tool, there is no cross. Is the cross there to merely show the centre or does it have a different purpose in showing it's a different property? Also, if you want to recreate this, make sure you are in Outline View (⌘/ctrl + Y) .
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn addition to my continual problems with getting the color output to match simulated print colors of CMYK on screen and .png printouts, I now find that upon PDF export, you can see the boundaries of an ellipse and a shape. I wanted to create a corona-style effect around the sun, so I used an ellipse and a shape, both with transparencies applied. (Edit to add: this is a design for a card deck.)
When I print the PDF export, (see the "PDF boundaries" image), the colors look way off and you can clearly see the circular boundaries of the ellipse and/or shape; it will do it on either one. All that should be visible is the white "corona" around the sun, which is subtle and indicated by the blue arrow pointing to it on the image "Sunrays."
Having discovered this problem, I've experimented with all sorts of variations of trying to get that corona, including the "glow" effect, but don't know how to change the color of the glow, itself. But it shouldn't be printing those boundaries to begin with, so something is off somewhere.
I'm exporting with PDF/X-3, 300 dpi, Limit bitmap resolution to rasterization resolution, JPEG quality at 100, exclude invisible layers.
I need to know how to make the type tool take the shape of the ellipse I am typing in.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I use the ellipse tool to draw a shape, a portion of the ellipse is missing. The missing portion is always on the lower right hand side of the ellipse. I am using CorelDraw Graphics Suite X4. I have attached a graphic showing what I mean.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've drawn a hollow ellipse shape (shape layer). I would like to remove the bottom half of the ellipse shape so that I am left with a parabola shape.
I've tried creating two shape layers and combining them in such a way as to subtract out the bottom half of the original ellipse but I am obviously doing it wrong.
Using Illustrator CC. I made a sphere shape and reshaped it using a warp effect.
Now when I try use a transform command (reflect or rotate) it only effects the “original” bound box which is the sphere I first made, and not my warp effect shape. My question is can I modify a shape after I apply a warp effect?
I'm trying to put a text around a circle / arc.
I'm able to create an ellipse with the select tool, create a path from it and then add a text "along the path". Unfortunately I can't specify on what position of the arc/ellipse the text should start (left-upper corner, middle, right upper corner, etc.).
I want to use the ellipse to cut out a section of a picture. Then I want to save the ellipse so that only the ellipse is shown. Instead, I am getting a rectangle with the ellipse in it. After that, I would like to put a border around the ellipse.

I select the erase tool and click and drag across the part of an elipse that I want to get rid of (so far so good), then I release the mouse and an outline of the nib tool is left behind.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to color a sketch I made and have thus far (successfully??) created a white background, an ink layer and a color layer. They are in multiply mode. The file I am working with is not GIF or JPEG, it's XCF.
Color is set to 100%, mode is normal. And yes, the image mode IS set to RGB.
I had selected a small color palette and filled an ellipse shape with it. Fine so far. I wanted to make another ellipse within this one and make it a different color. This did not work. I don't know how many options I tried, incl. exiting the program and starting again, to no avail. Somehow (how this worked) ONE additional color worked (very similar to the first). But no black, for example, no green, nothing.
Yesterday I finished a picture (my first attempt using GIMP or any software, at least for art) and I was super happy with the result. It's not working.
I'm trying to replicate the way these circles are connected for use in a new design. At first I tried constructing this with the use of a white outline around the circles. But this isn't a solution, as the white pace around each linked circle obviously isn't a perfect circle itself.
The problem is achieving a perfectly aligned, flowing "s" curve. The connecting points that are giving me trouble are in the red circles.I can approximate the connection points, but this leaves a "kink" in what should be a perfectly flowing "s" curve. I thought smart guides/snap to point would br useful here, but to no avail.
How doI insert a teardrop into a phot?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Illustrator and trying to recreate the following:
This was originally created in PowerPoint - TearDrop shape. 3d effect: Bevel top type: circle. width 40 height 10. Nothing for the bottom. Surface material Warm Matte and 3-point lighting. Nothing else for depth/conture. I'm not concerned with the shadow. When I try to recreate in Illustrator I end up with something similair to below regardless how much I adjust things.
Notice the overlapping folds. This is a single object comprised of a circle and square to get a tear drop shape however when I try to make it look like the above first object I can never get that nice crisp 45 degree line to the center, it is always curved or overlapping, or does not apply the effect to the center, leaving it very flat centered. Adding light points in and moving does not work and I of course receive the "bevel self-intersection may have occurred". I don't see a bevel option for "circle" and not sure how else to accomplish or steps that I may take.
I am trying to distort/shape a photo to fit into another shape, in the shape of a shield. Its something that would be reused on otehr pictures.
2 things i would like to do, first is of course as above
the otehr, is there any way to creat like a rubber stamp or a cutting tool, that once I have the shape I want created, I can use that to copy/cut/paste that image shape from otehr images also ?
I have a jpg image that countain a number of 8 digits. I want to modify some digits but keeping the font, size and color of the digit as is. How it can be done ?
View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to select and modify an EXISTING rectangle (not create a new one)? I drew a rectangle with rounded corners, and now I would like to modify the radius of the corners.
I've tried using the Rectangle Select tool to reselect the existing rectangle, but Gimp only lets me create a new rectangle.
How & where to modify my ''Underlying layers'' for an image I am working on.
The overall project/design is for a t-shirt mock-up template. The whole idea is to make it as realistic looking as possible (photorealistic)
I found a great tutorial (which unfortunately was made for photoshop...) I was to follow it and pretty much apply the instruction to Gimp. However, there is part where the ''Underlying layers'' are being tweeked.
I am able to follow everything up to (4:32) [URL] ...........
I would like to modify a text on a picture for a friend. Let me explain : here is the picture I'd like to modify :

I'd like to delete the facebook thing and replace it. But I don't know how to do it. I thought I would select and delete but the result is terrible because the color is not uniform, take a look at this :

The top of the sheet is okay, the rest is not...
Second question. How to make a text looks "real".
I have thought : let's take a picture of a someone holding a blank paper and add a message.
[URL].....
It's not bad but it doesn't look as if I had stamped the message. So I was wondering is there any tool to do so ? Or to make the text fit the picture. As you can see, the quality is not perfect, the first thing coming in my mind is "pixels". It seems we have two different kind of "pixelisation" (I don't know if it's the correct term for what I want to say) : an "old" picture with a new text...I tried the pixel filter it's not working fine.
I am building my first website for myself. I am using Elegant Themes, which uses WordPress. I am attempting to modify (reduce in size) a banner on my website, which appears within a slider on the homepage. After modifying the image in Gimp 2.8, I attempt to save/export the new image, and a window appears "The folder contents could not be displayed." How can I proceed?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that when I try to modify path, I can only manipulate one curve, and then it won't recognize any more curves - when I hover the cursor above next curve I want to change, the cursor icon is that with rectangle, not the one with four arrows, and when I click on the curve, it just adds new node in this place. It never happened before. I don't know how else I could describe this problem, but I made a short video that displays it better: [URL] ........

I am trying to modify a set of icons for the status bar of my cell phone. I have tried Paint.net (recommended by many themers) but the color never looks right. I can colorize the icons individually but that will take a long time to do all 71 icons. I tried using a macro to run Gimp and repeat the task on a loop but the "Export Image as PNG" dialog box keeps opening under the stack of Gimp windows and messes the macro up.
Is there any way to change the color of multiple .png files as a batch operation?
Is it possible to creat a selection with scissors for example and then drag that shape somewhere else to cut it there.

I am trying to cut out a photo in a heart shape, I have looked at other tutorials but it isn't working.
I know there are several methods, I can create a path an draw my own heart, I can find a heart shape on the internet like this one below and "invert" (didn't work)
How do you draw a line within a shape? I know how to make a circle or rectangle (through the circle or rectangle select tool/stroke path) and how to draw straight lines. I want to take a box like this:
-----
1 1
1 1
1 1
-----
and add a line through the center like this:
-----
1 1
1-----1
1 1
-----
And of course I'd prefer the line be neat, from one end of the shape to the other, not just a sloppily drawn line.
Of course I can do this very slowly by drawing the line, zooming way in, and manually moving the line into place. But surely there's a better way!
