Easiest way to restore a Smoke Linux archive using Smoke on Mac 2012. The archive was saved to an external USB drive that I assume is Linux Ext-2 or Ext-3.
Mounting the drive on the Mac is the challenge. I've read that using an open source program like MacFuse may be an option. Does Autodesk provide a Mac utility for doing this?
Is it possible to restore projects that were archived on Smoke Advanced into Smoke for Mac?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHave FCP Studio and/or Adobe production bundle running on the same system as your Smoke? If you do what issues do you have? I've heard that you should be able to run all 3 on the same system, maybe not at the same time and that's fine, but I've heard others say to go the old route and keep your Smoke system as just a Smoke system. We are currently in the process of racking our system up and will be starting to learn the system very soon but I've been wondering if there are down sides to including other software on the system.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running the SMAC demo (installed 9/13/13 - Friday the 13th !!!) and all has been fine untill today. Now SMAC will not start. I click the icon and it bounces for about 3 minutes and then stops. Clicking on the icon reveals the old Application Not Responding.
My storage volume is mounted. Don't see anything odd in the Service Monitor. A restart of mac gets the same story.
I've seen in action the Resolve and I don't really like it.. Using Smac as grading tool in a pipeline? I mean, any colorist using Smac for grading?

If so I could create a shell script with my project and library names and just leave it running overnight project after project. Is this possible? Or command line works only for un archiving?
Using Smoke EXT1 and a previous user archived his project using the old school method; media and setups seperatly instead of just selecting the project as a whole.
I've draged the media into a library and restored that easy enough but can not find the details of how to recover the setups from the tar file in the archive. It does not show up in the media pannel at all, just an emply folder. How to get these setups loaded into a project?
Is it possible to archive setups without archiving the whole project?

I know that the AJA Kona 3 card has 2 outputs. Can Smoke send one eye to one channel and the other eye to the other of the Kona 3 card? Dual Stream output is what I am really getting at.

1. If I have a layered Photoshop file or png with an alpha channel (a still frame lower third), I see that I can import it as a multi layered clip, but what is the best way to have it in the sequence to show up properly?
2. If I have a QuickTime in animation format or Pro Res4444 format with an embedded alpha, how can I import that file to show and cut it on a top layer to animate above my video?

In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have multiple computers in my department that just received multiple Microsoft updates, a service pack update to Windows 7 and an upgrade to Internet Explorer 9. When they restarted and browsed in Windows explorer, all the Autodesk icons have been replaced by a generic icon. We tried to reset by re-establshing the file association and that did not work.
How do we rebuild the Autodesk icon cache on these machines?
Whats the dealing with importing TWs to Smoke? I have a show that's 70% keyframed with timewarps and need a way other then baking the effect to bring it into Smoke. It's comming from FCP7 and we have Automatic Duck but neither the XMLs or AAF bring anything other then the first speed of the clip. Any way to retain the keyframes?

I have a new computer and want to move the databse catalog over. I backed up in PSE 9 to an external hard drive. I connected to HD to the new computer and tried a resotre catalog. I chose "New Location" since I was going from XP to Windows 7 and was unsure if there would be a conflict with file locations. I also chose "Restore Original Floder Strucure". Very quickly I recieve an error message "Could not restor file .xml". I have run Restore Catalog several times and each time a DIFFERENT FILE receives the error message. I then disabled Norton Anti Virus Auto-Protect. I then disabled several programs running in the background. Same problem. I then copied the Backup Catalog to the new computer and tried to Restore it from there. Same Problem. I have now run a Repair Catalog on the original file. PSE states there is no error. I want to purchas PSE 11, but wanted to install/restore the database with the same version 9 first.

I tried Smoke 2013 PR2 on my MacBook Air 11".
It uses all the available RAM that is 4GB.
Same experience with Smoke 2012 on my MacBook pro 13"".
Is that normal?
I have RED footage which I exported as EXR. When I import them back in, they look exactly like the RED footage. But when I import the EXR in Fusion, export it back out, and then import that EXR into Smoke, it looks brighter, although I didn't change anything in Fusion. (when I compare the EXR from Smoke and the EXR from fusion in my finder on my desktop, they look exactly the same). So what is Smoke doing with the "foreign" exr on import?I was also playing with the LUT settings. I get a result which is close, but I need to be exact.
