AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Customize IProperties Dialog

We need to be able to show, item quantity, part number, description, material spec, length in inches, and total of length x qty and weights x qty. We would like to set up iProperties so that when we input the values for each property our BOM will be completed, is this possible?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Preview IProperties Function In Dialog

Mar 8, 2013

I'm working on my dialog for editing iproperties again and I'd like to make it preview the output of a function. We like using functions in the description for calling out material sizes using parameters. So I have my dialog get the function in the description iproperty, but if you don't know what parameters are what it can be hard to work with.

I'd like to show the evaluated description function so it's easier to work with.

Description function

=<G_H> x <G_W> x <G_T> S.S. TUBE x <G_L>

Evaluated description shown in BOM

4.00 in x 2.00 in x 0.19 in S.S. TUBE x 21.00 in

I know it'd be possible to set the iproperty and get the evaluated version after setting it. But if the user cancels out of the dialog that change would have to be undone, which would require storing the original value and resetting it on cancel. Is there a way to evaluate the function without setting it first?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Crashes When Trying To Open IProperties Of 1 Certain IPT

Dec 8, 2011

The crash happens everytime I try to open iProperties from the .iam(Assembly) that I use it in. The only other .ipts I use in the .iam is two small rings. I can open iProperties for the .ipt if I open the .ipt for it self, thou I have .iams that use .ipts that are nearly similar to the one causing the crash, that open iProperties just fine.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Open Dialog Categorized By Date?

Mar 8, 2013

running on Windows 7 is seeing files categorized in his Inventor Routed Systems Open dialog categorized by:

Today
Yesterday
Last Week
Last Month

He doesn't recall it always being like that (and I've never seen it on any system I've used).

When he opens a Word file, those files are not categorized that way.If he switches to "List" he just gets all files but he doesn't get the detail he wants if he were using "Detail".

AutoCAD Inventor :: File - Open Dialog / Why Can't We Get Consistent Dialogs

Aug 16, 2012

I would like to see consistent behaviour between dialogs. For me, probably the dialog that I use the most is the File >Open dialog. When I do File>Open and browse to a file, then close the file.  The next time I do a File>Open, I am taken to the previous path, but the previous file is not highlighted/selected. So, I have to grab the scroll bar and pull it down to get to the file.

Now when I do a File>Open from Vault, it goes to and selects the previously opened file. This is also how Autocad works. Would be nice if Inventor worked the same way.

1) when I pick the file I want to open, in left lower corner - thumbnail window- is displayed text:"preview not available"

2) when I pick the file I want to open, the left lower corner - thumbnail window- is black

In iProperties panel I have checked "Save preview picture"

What I found was that if I export a parts list to excel, then go to File>Open, for some reason the size of my file>open dialog is cleared.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Open Inconsistent Assembly Takes Long Time To Show Unresolved Link Dialog

Oct 20, 2011

We have a data folder on the server mapped as network drive to the clients. The data folder contains all cad data stored from productstream professional.

Due to an over 10 year old environment the data folder contains a huge amount of cad files, library parts, iParts and so on.

Due to historical growth of the environment there are some missing parts (not available on the file system anymore), because they were deleted, are corrupt, and so on. At the root of the data folder there is located the typical cmpinv11.ipj inventor project file.

If you open an assembly either from productstream or via inventor (without productstream) directly from the data folder and the assembly has an unresolved child component because the file isn't there anymore it takes a very very long time until the dialog box for unresolved link comes up (waiting time several minutes 1...10min). Once reached this point one can skip and repair the assembly, of course.

But the question is, how to speed up the time for getting the unresolved link dialog?

The network connection itself is quite OK und the project file itself is also OK. The project file list of every user is pretty small (only cmpinv11.ipj and some standard ipj's).

We think inventor internally scans the whole project-file folders to ensure that the component is really missing but due to the huge environment this takes many minutes and is annoying.

Any bypass for that? Is it possible to apply a temporär setting before opening a potential inconsistent assembly? Or is there a setting like skip unresolved components by default or by a defined timeout?

Because it is Inventor 2010 (Productstream PRO 210) there is no File open Option Auto-Skip unresolved components (like in 2012) but even if it was I guess it wouldn't reduce the time to get the dialog either.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Retrieve IProperties From IDW To IPT

Dec 20, 2013

In the past we filled in our changes, we did on the part, in the iProperties of the IDW. In the IDW we use some Custom iProperties for this. That's not usefull because you want this data in the 3D-model. Now I have written some code to automate this, which works really great. This code works in the IPT as well as the IDW. But what I want to achieve is: When my IPT is the active document, I want to read out the iProperties from the IDW to check if there is already filled some of these properties, because I have to deal with 'old' documents as well.

So my basis question is: How can I read out iProperties from an IDW into the IPT. I have found lots of solutions which go the opposite direction, IPT -> IDW. I want IDW -> IPT.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IProperties And BOM Customization

Aug 15, 2012

I am now looking to work with custom iProperties that will populate our company's new BOM standard.  I have not done much with regards to customizing a BOM (I've always used the generic fields).  Now my boss has come to me and wants to use the following headings for our BOM....

REF ID, QTY. , DESCRIPTION, SHAPE, SIZE, LENGTH, MASS, TOTAL LENGTH, TOTAL MASS, COMMENTS, REF. DWG.
REV., REV. DATE

While I understand some of these fields will require the user to manually type information in (Comments and Ref. Dwg.)  The others, from my understanding, can come straight from iProperties or Parameters.  I am running INV Pro 2013.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Parameter In IProperties

Jan 6, 2014

Sometimes I change the dimensions of a material I use but then I have to open Iproperties and change the description by hand. This can create problems as you can understand especially when I forget to update the Iproperties.

Then I had the thought to automate it. Lets take a steel bar as example. I have thickness and width as parameter, both are exported and available under IProperties/Custom. But they show as 200 mm and 10 mm. I would like to loose the units. I tried also UL but then it reads 200 ul and 10 ul.

What I like to get are just the numbers, no units. I like to use it to create this  "steel bar 200x10" where the 200 and the 10 are linked to the Parameter and will change when I change the dimensions av the steel bar.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Set Description In IProperties

I cannot figure out how to extract the parameter values and place them into the iproperties. Here is what I have tried: iProperties.Value("Project", "Description")=" =<Length> x <Width> Floor Sheet"... This gives me the following result in my description:  x  Floor Sheet
