AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Bind Floor Plan Into A Drawing

Aug 10, 2009

I am trying to bind a floor plan into a drawing an I get the error: at least one of the specified xrefs failed to bind due to a problem with a proxy object. The floor plan was created by an outside company and we did the electrical engineering. Now that our files are due to the customer, i have to get our drawings to bind.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Building Floor Plan - Rotate Drawing To True North?

Jul 12, 2012

I have an autocad drawing that has a building floor plan.

I need to "rotate the building 90 degrees" or "rotate the USC 90 degrees" in order to line the building up to TRUE project north  (architect has a Revit model oriented to true north that I need to match when we combine our files in Navisworks)

I have tried DVIEW > Twist.. which I thought was it, it rotated my drawing, but the USC rotated with it. I tried the USCFOLLOW with no luck.

Also tried going into UNITS > DIRECTION and tried VP with no luck.

I understand that I can just select the entire floor plan and manually rotate it BUT, the building is not easy "shape" to work with, so it is next to impossible finding the "center" of my drawing to rotate it (I need this to be brough into Navisworks WITHOUT rotating the file again)

You would think this would be very simple to do and take 30 seconds. I have googled everything with no luck. I just need to change my True north

- doing this in modelspace
- needs to be align with a Revit model already oreinted to true north
- just need to rotate the drawing OR UCS 90 degrees, but can't find the "center" of the drawing

AutoCad 3D :: Flattening Large 3D Model (hospital Ground Floor) To 2D Floor Plan Drawing

Oct 16, 2012

How to solve this problem of 'Flattening a large 3d model (hospital ground floor) to a 2d floor plan drawing'. The 3d model was made in Rhino and I saved it as a .dwg file because Rhino kept crashing with the command 'make 2d' (file too large maybe :/).

I don't know AutoCAD 3d so now, I'm trying to just change the line layers and eventually plot it all, but sometimes when I save the progress.... AutoCAD will delete sections of my work sometimes :/

AutoCad :: Shop Floor Plan Drawing - Blocks Won't Rotate

May 15, 2012

I'm using AutoCAD 2010, working with a drawing created by someone else. I'm completely green with AutoCAD -- never used 2D CAD of any kind before. (I do have 15 year of experience with 3D CAD, but that's not much use to me now!)

The drawing is a shop floor plan, with each piece of a equipment as a block. I am moving or copying these blocks, sometimes to new layers. Sometimes, after I've moved a block to a new layer, I can no longer rotate it. The rotate command seems to work, but nothing happens.

Here's what I've tried so far:

* Checked if the layer is locked. (It's not; no layers are locked.)
* Tested other blocks. (They behave normally.)
* Toggled ortho mode on and off. (No change.)
* Closed and re-opened the file. (No change.)
* Closed and re-opened AutoCAD. (No change.)
* Rebooted. (No change.)

One guy took my drawing, "exploded the blocks" (whatever that means), and gave it back to me. The blocks would then rotate but, as soon as I started working with another one the same thing happened.

AutoCad 2D :: How To Create Attribute - Drawing Floor Plan With Different Room Names

Jan 2, 2012

I know how to create a block and all that is fine, but looking for detailed simple lesson on how to create a Attribute. ( I guess thats what they are called). For instance, drawing a floor plan with different room names and etc, I know there is a way to make a circle or polygon, or square and then when it is inserted in the drawing, you just have to type the new name of the room, or the window symbol, or door number and etc.

By the way, I am using a student version of AutoCAD 2010. Also, if you could also add the keyboard shortcut alias's too would be a great deal.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Cannot See The Doors On Floor Plan

Jun 10, 2011

When I select the doors I want to use for my floor plan I can't see the picture of the door that I selected before and after I place it onto a wall, when you usually can. You can only see it on symmetric view, but not in a floor plan bird view, all you see is a gap in the wall (looks like the wall is split into two separate pieces). This only occurs for the doors, the rest of the design tools, I can see their pictures before and after, on the floor plan. I think maybe changed some settings, I'm not use. Maybe there is a way to set everything to deafult settings?

I'm using AutoCad Architecture 2011 (metric)

AutoCAD Architecture :: Convert 2D Floor Plan To 3D

Jul 8, 2013

having several simple (AuoCAD Architecture) DWG room floor plans, based on basic 2D lines, etc, I am searching for a possibility to make them ready for 3D (for e.g. converting lines to wall objects with default height, etc).

Are there any common tools specialized on this issue?

Or would it make sense to build for e.g. a VBA tool to support the CAD technician for repetitive tasks, like extrusions, in order to goal 3D, without having to draw everything (new) from scratch.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Normalizing Text On Floor Plan?

Aug 7, 2013

I am working with architectural floor plans in AutoCAD 2013 trying to get all of the room name / number annotations uniform. The drawing is a compilation of a many different drawings created by different architects at different times, so the room numbers are not the same size.

I have all of the room names on their own layer and all of the room numbers on their own layer. Each name / number is a block. Is there a way for me to easily get all of the text the same size? So far the only way I have figured out to do this is using the "scale" function on each individual text block, this is not ideal as there are thousands of rooms...

It is only for this particular file that has this discrepancy. Other files I have tried gave the same area between the two versions. We have the setting setup as the same in terms of units etc.

AutoCAD 2013 :: How To Create Smaller Area Of Floor Plan Into New File

Dec 12, 2012

I have no background with AutoCAD 2013, but my boss has given me the software and tasked me with taking entire floor plans of an individual floor .dwg and create smaller areas of each floor into separate, new .dwg's (like several rooms together) that then could be converted into .pdf's for sharing and/or printing.  I have tried to find a simple tutorial or explaination of how to do this, but AutoCAD is such an amazing and complex tool that I'm having trouble with the terminology even.

I was right-clicking on the 'Model' tab to create a 'New Layout', right-clicking that to get to 'Page Set-Up Manager' and 'Modifying that to select 11 x 17, Landscape, and 'Adobe PDF' in the Printer dialog box.  When I worked in the new Layout window sometimes I could zoom in to a section of the floorplan and then go to 'A' button in the upper left corner and select 'Print' and sometimes the resulting .PDF file would be that smaller section, and sometimes it would still just be the whole floorplan.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Creating A Riser From Blocks Inserted On Floor Plan

Apr 25, 2013

I'm looking for an easy way to generate a on-line riser diagram of blocks that have been inserted on a floor plan. Here's what I was thinking.

For every instance where the block  SLC_DEVICE IS insert on the drawing, the routine would insert the block listed in the "TYPE" and place text equal to what is listed in the "ADDRESS".  The TYPE is the actual block name.

Each one of these blocks have a tag of TYPE and ADDRESS.  What is in the TYPE tag is the block name of what should be inserted and what is in the ADDRESS tag is the text that should be inserted under the block.

So for example; the routine would find the first instance and the tag TYPE which is "Smoke_Detector" and the tag ADDRESS which is 01:03:001.  The routine would insert the block "Smoke_Detector" with the text "01:03:001" directly under it.  It would insert the next instance the same way a specified distance from the last; so on so on so on until all instances of the BLOCK (SLC_DEVICE ) have been inserted.

The other part of this would be the Block "NAC&SPK_Circuit" but you would use the Tags "Type", "Candela" AND "NacCkt" to generate the one liner.
