AutoCAD 2010 :: Inserting New Block And Entering Attribute Data By Selecting Another Block?
Aug 13, 2012Is it possible, via whatever methods (lisp?) to be able to have a premade block with an attribute and insert it into a drawing then assign a value to it by selecting another existing block in the drawing and using one of its own attribute’s values?
For example, say I have a block representing a telephone and it had an attribute called "PhoneNo" and I inserted it into a drawing showing an office floor plan that had blocks in each office space that are telephone junction boxes with attributes "PhoneExtension". I would like to be able to autocomplete the entering of the “PhoneNo” data by selecting one of the telephone junction boxes in the drawing and using its attribute’s value.

Oct 28, 2013I have created a dynamic block with a stretch, flip and rotate. Everything works great in its file. When I insert it in another file, the grips move but the block does not change.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Convert Block Back To Title Block Or Border
Feb 15, 2012We have a title block and border which is used in MS. If this is referenced using AMTITLE then it acts as expected. We issue these to some external people to create our drawings but they have been using CTRL-C and V to place them in a new drawing. ACAD does now not see them as a Title block or border but as blocks. We have a process to bring DWG's into SAP and this will check for a title block and border.
The issue is we need to fix these drawings and currently this means removing the borders and title blocks and placing new ones then adding all the attributes again. Is there a way to convert the blocks back to how they should be?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Way To Have Block Within Block That Has Same Ability To Move Around
Aug 15, 2013I have a block (room info) that has five line os text with attributes that display grips which allow them to be moved in whatever drawing I put them in. Within that block there is a little polyline that is the square with a dash through it to represent sq. ft. that I made into a seperate block ( sq ft tick). The room info block part of it works great in all my drawings, but the darn sq ft tick block within the room info block won't budge! I have tried giving it a seperate insertion point and giving that block its own attribute, but no luck.
Is there any way to have a block within a block that has the same ability to move around as the other elements?
AutoCAD Inventor :: IDW And Colors / Appearances
Dec 5, 2012I have a question pertaining to Inventor Drawings: Occasionally in an .IDW I make a change in the assembly and I notice that most parts do not update to the new size. More importantly, if I make a change to the color or appearance of a part it doesn't reflect in the .IDW. Is there a way that I can make this happen?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Appearances Attributes In Library
Nov 15, 2013Is it possible to save an attribute to an appearance then save it to a library? I would like to store some finish data that can be accessed later from the api. I can apply the attribute to all the necessary renderstlyes and use the SaveToGlobal() method. It seems to work great in the part the program is run from, but when I go to the next part and apply the same appearance it does not contain the new attribute. I have also tried creating a copy of the appearance in the document then save that to the library, but any appearances that I edit or create programmatically will not save to the library even if manually drag it within the appearance editor. My project show the material and appearance libraries set to read/write and if I create an appearance thought the editor I can move it to the library without any problems, it's only the items created/modified through the api that will not move. I am running Inventor 2013 SP2.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Restore Or Fix Default Materials And Appearances In 2013
Oct 21, 2012How do I go about restoring, repairing or fixing the default materials and appearances that come installed with Inventor Pro 2013? I have a stand-alone single seat installation. SP 1.1 has been installed.
I tried to create a custom library of materials and appearances by making a copy of InventorMaterialLibrary.adsklib and renaming it. I then added new materials. Depending on project, I get nag messages regarding template styles in conflict with the library styles. I'm also getting message warning me that the InventorMaterialLibrary can't get loaded.
It is my intent to create a custom materials and appearances library that mimics the as installed InventorMaterialLibrary plus some additional materials and appearances. The custom library and appearances need to be available to all NEW projects and MAY be added to existing projects without getting the nag message about style conflicts.
I'm also seeing a behavior where the default appearance changes from standard light gray to the first appearance listed in the Autodesk Appearance Library, the 1.5 inch blue tile. I suspect that's the reason I'm getting the nag message. How do I fix this? How do I prevent this from happening in the future?
1) Restoring default as installed material and appearance libraries
2) Creating a custom materials and appearance library to contains ALL items found in the InventorMaterialLibrary plus new materials and appearances
3) Preventing nag style conflict messages
4) Preventing the default appearance of light gray to change to the 1.5 inch blue tile
The machine I'm currently using needs to be ready to go in the morning.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 Appearances - Adding New Colors In Custom Library
Jan 8, 2013First, I have not grasped the extent yet of how the new appearance library works.. we don't get crazy with colors, reflections etc.. but we do have a handful of colors that we use on the machines we use.. so instead of using the default appearance library, i made a new appearance library. All this went well, but i periodically as i need them will add colors to it.. problem is that i'm obviously doing something wrong, because my colors don't always stay in there after i restart Inventor.. and yesterday, i can't seem to keep any of the colors i setup in there to stay.. all i want to do is copy specific colors from inventors appearance library.. drag them into mine, rename them, maybe tweak the color, and then they be there for next time.. why won't they stay?
The edit pencil will come up on my library.. i've done the release edit after i'm done.. everything works in this inventor session, but if i turn inventor off and back on again.. they are gone.. only thing i have thought of remaining is that 3 users on our network share the same design styles location so we all our using same stuff, so is the file inventor uses in design styles to save to read only or something, but i read that appearances aren't saved in design styles.. How to do this and the colors stay and populate through all the existing stuff.. I have got the colors to lock into my template ipt in the doc appearances.. and i've done the save to custom library thing.. works until i restart inventor..
AutoCAD Inventor :: Equalize Material Appearances Globally In Whole Assembly In 2013?
Dec 9, 2012In Inventor 2012 user has ability to change the material properties globally.
All parts using certain material will follow the changes made to properties and written to single library. It is clear and predictable.
In Inventor 2013 material properties belong to individual file.
When changes were done to appearance properties of a single part there could be situation when the same material parts in the assembly could have different appearance.
Here is the fact I do not understand and it is contradict to actual reality since the same material with the same standard must look absolutelly the same when switched to Master view.
Seems like to make parts look the same or to change the appearance I should click on each single file and make the same changes to each file.
I do not intend to change the appereance properties in single file on purpose to make problems to myself but I am sure I will take somebody else part and it will be changed due unnecessary reflection or other too much realistic things added in 2013. So finally I will get some sort of parrot collored assembly without clear and most importand easy way to make an order.
So I wish I could equalize all same material parts in apearance view. I do not count the way of clicking each file.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Modified Appearances Library - Now It Crashes On STEP File Opening
Mar 1, 2013We recently purged our part templates of unused materials and appearances because there were duplicates after our merge between our original 2012 library and 2013 library. We deleted these duplicates but retained all materials that inventor uses by default, such as the "default" material.
Creating new files causes no problems, however when opening a .STEP file Inventor immedietly crashes and exits to the desktop. We tried re-assigning the default templates that came with our install of 2013 and we can open STEP files just fine.
We tried uninstalling the latest update (Update 2 for SP1.1) but that did not change the problem.
We are using confirmed STEP files that have opened fine in the past and new STEP files that are freshly downloaded. NOTE: the same crash occurs with .SAT and .IGES files as well, however we primarliy use STEP files.
This is occuring on two seperate machines, both running Windows 7 64-Bit with i7 processors and 16 Gigabites of RAM.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Block Has Box Around It
Mar 6, 2012I have a user that has created a couple of drawings where the blocks seem to have some kind of bounding box around them. He used blocks from a server based library that we have been using without issue for a long time.
As a test I used the same library of blocks and had no problem. If I copy/paste the problem drawing into my good drawing the bounding boxes follow along. Tried dxf out, wblock, audit, purge, recover, etc
I have attached the problem drawing and the good test drawing. (The arch background is eliminated to keep file size down)

Jan 31, 2012I have a client border that is attributed, however, when I open the attribute editor, some lines appear in red, while others are black. Turns out the font "FRACTION.SHX" is not on my system. So, I reset one of the problem attributes to a ROMANS. Saved, closed and reopened the drawing and still, the attribute editor displays them in red lettering, as if there is still something not right.
I've attached it. Note that drawing title texts seem fine, but "DRAWN DATE" and a few others are the ones showing up in red..

May 31, 2012In the Sheet Set Manager, in the Sheet List tab, if you click on the project name and Righ-Click and select Properties, you can see the file to be used as the Label Block for Views. It appears that there can be only one block chosen.
I would like on our Enlarged Plan drawings to use another block.I made a subset for these Enlarged Plans, but Right-Clicking on it does not offer a place to specify a different block.
Is there anyway to have a different block for a subset of drawing?

Well I want to make a beam lisp that will ask the user to click an insert point, width, and angle then draw an appropriate wipe out block with a dashed line down the center to represent our beam then rotate it into place.

i know this works because i am working in autocad where it is implemented. this was done by an individual before i started at this job.

Apr 27, 2012I need to create blocks in which the same text appears twice. I've created an invisible attribute to hold the text and created two mtext object containing fields that point to the attribute value.
The text fields show the default value of my attribute but will not change when the attribute is set on an placed instance. After setting the attribute on an instance I've tried UPDATEFIELD and REGEN but still I see the default value.

If we have 'visibility action' beside 'visibility set' maybe it will make thing better, when use it with lookup table. Each visibility action can has it's own set of objects. Put actions in lookup table to hide and show the set combined with them.

It works well while I'm in the block editor but it will not work properly when used in the drawing. The option of "Point only" does not hide all attributes of some reason.

Oct 8, 2012Just recently we upgraded from ACAD 2010 to 2011. Some users are still on XP and some are on Windows 7. Since we began making the jump to ACAD 2011, we have begun to notice more and more drawings popping up with blocks no longer visible that were there the day before. When you go to the block editor, the block definition is still there but all of the geometry has been blown away. The only entity that seems to be immune is an attribute. The only commonality among the various drawings this is happening too is that they are all being accessed from an XP machine. Some folks have had to spend hours restoring all the blocks that were lost and that in itself was a challenge because ACAD already saw the definition so it would continue to blow away the geometry. You could purge the block IF you could find a way to pick it and delete it.

Jul 23, 2013whenever I make a block with attributed text the block works just fine when I insert it into a drawing like normal. However if I try and open the block drawing by itself the attributed text just turns into normal text after I get this message "Orphan Attdef Objects found & Converted to Text". This problem seems to happen on two of our machines but a third co-workers machine still works fine.
